PART 20: DASMOND ANGEL ~the casket on the wall~
"Not long ago," I answered.
When we arrived, it was 12 o'clock. Jerome had a very irritated face at our arrival even when we're dressed at our best. He fancies cleanliness, we were all aware of it. Even during the times when we were witch hunters, he would cleaned his sword off of blood until it shines again before he took another life. Cleanliness was like an obsession to him
In his head, I can hear him thinking about an important matter to care for. We all followed him to his basement out of his order. There are many statues in his basement. He said he had become a sculpturer, that's how he fend for himself. Looking at the statues, they all have the same expression on their face. It's fear and horror. I knew it. He turned people to stone with his eyes. So, he didn't really sculptered them, right? That's genius... and evil...
"You must be reading my mind now so you must know that all the statues here used to be human," Jerome said to me in the midst of walking, smiling evilly at that. "Don't worry. None of them are good people," he indicated and laughs evilly a little. Alexander and Lucas were walking behind me as we followed Jerome through the dark tunnel heading for another room up ahead.
When we reached the room, Jerome opened the room with a little light of happiness in his eyes. I didn't stand a chance to listen to his thoughts as I was mesmerized to have seen a white built-in casket to the wall before me. There's a statue in the casket of a young boy who seems like he's no more than 18 years old. The whole room looked like a memorial tomb. This statue, I assume, must be very special to Jerome. Jerome went straight ahead to the casket and smile. I can hear him saying 'my love' in his head.
He opened the casket and touched the statue. The statue slowly deteriorate and began to colorize. It then became a human in flesh and blood. The boy opens his eyes slowly. No emotions were shown on his face. But when he looks at Jerome, he smiles. Jerome then planted a kiss on his lips. We were all shocked at his candid action. "You brought company today," the boy said to Jerome as soon as the kiss ended.
"Yes," Jerome said, offering his hand to the boy. The boy took it and walked out from his casket. "Please meet Nicolaus Theron, my lover," Jerome then introduced him to us.
This boy is fascinating. Completely opposite to Micheal, Alexander's lover who thinks too much at the same time. This boy is not thinking most of the time. He's very different. Normal human I have met will always have thoughts inside their heads. They thought of the texture of their soup, the color of their bag, the things they had done, or what they're going to do next but this boy, Nicolaus, he's not thinking any of it. He only thinks 'eat'in a single word as he ate his food, 'walk' when he's going somewhere, 'Jer' when he's looking at Jerome, 'Jer's friends' when he's looking at us, '360 years' when Jerome told him of the year this year. He is... interesting...
I just knew that Jerome will only awaken Nicolaus once a year. And that will be on this very date, January the 7th, which is the boy's birthdate. It is because the boy is human and he is not going to live forever so Jerome turn him to stone so that he can live longer.
Nicolaus said '360 years' in his head, right? That must be the amount of years he had became stone. But to him, it's only been 360 days because he will only be awaken once a year. It must be painful to be seperated from your love one like that and only get to meet him once a year. I feel an instant pity towards Jerome.
