Chapter Forty Six

The next morning, Gabe fed, bathed and changed JJ, before carefully brushing his few black hairs with a soft, horse-hair baby brush until they shone. He dressed him in a brand new blue jumper suit with teddy bears on it, put a woollen blue bobble hat around his ears, and fastened a pair of tiny white and red trainers over JJ's feet. Placing JJ in the cot, Gabe had a quick, thirty-second shower, dressed, wolfed some breakfast, and strapped JJ into his car seat. He fetched the travel-bag filled with nappies, a dummy, spare clothes, wet wipes and some powered milk and a bottle. Putting that on the seat next to JJ, he settled a soft brown teddy bear on JJ's lap. The bear was twice as big as the baby.

Gingerly settling himself into the front seat, Gabe started the engine and eased the car down the driveway. He was bad enough in the car alone, never mind with a baby on board. After a near miss with the gatepost, he drove along with his hazard lights flashing, not daring to go faster than twenty. It took him almost forty minutes to drive the ten miles to the army base. After parking haphazardly across two spaces, he thankfully clambered out of the car and unclipped JJ from his car seat. Settling himself on the tailgate of the car, Gabe cradled the baby, wrapped inside a fleece blanket, to wait for Jordan to arrive.

Finally, after almost an hour, a large army van drove through the front gates of the base. Gabe watched as almost thirty men jumped down from the lorry, their bags and kit in tow. Gabe caught a glimpse of Jordan in the crowd and slid off the tailgate, smiling.

"He's let himself get scruffy." Gabe murmured to JJ. "His hair's too long." JJ gurgled. "He looks okay though." He was talking more to reassure himself, when he saw Jordan walking with a pronounced limp. Jordan disappeared into a hanger for a few minutes, before he limped from the building and looked towards the parking lot. When he saw Gabe, his face split into a wide grin. He hurried over as fast as he could. "Show time." Gabe murmured to JJ.

"Hi, Gabe." Jordan said as soon as he was in ear shot. His gaze was almost immediately drawn to the bundle in Gabe's arms. He stopped abruptly. "What the hell is that?" Gabe laughed.

"'That' is a baby." He said, going over to Jordan.

"You were busy while I was away." Jordan said coldly, feeling jealousy rise in his chest. "Premature?" Gabe frowned, and held JJ up so Jordan could see his face.

"Do you think he has my colouring?" He demanded. The baby gurgled. Jordan frowned, a finger slowly rising to point at his own chest. "Yours." Gabe confirmed. "Ellen left 'that' on the doorstep five days ago." Rage flashed across Jordan's face before he quashed it firmly, with some visible effort.

"She left him… her? On the doorstep?"

"Pretty much. The postman basically delivered him to me."

"It's a him?" Jordan smiled and caressed the baby's cheek gently. He dropped his kit bags on the floor and reached out for the baby. Gabe gently transferred JJ to Jordan's arms. "Does he… have a name?" Gabe hesitated.

"Not really. I've been calling him JJ. Sometimes BJ or LJ."

"Baby Jordan." Gabe said, blushing. "Little Jordan. Jordan Junior."

"Jordan Junior… JJ." Jordan grinned. "I like that."

"Are you alright?" Gabe asked.

"A bit blindsided." Jordan said. "But… he's fine. He looks like me."

"Yeah… Poor little mite." Gabe smirked at Jordan's scowl. "Let's go home." He heaved Jordan's bags into the boot and handed Jordan the keys. "Can you drive, with your leg? I can't drive, even with two good legs." Jordan grinned, and reluctantly handed Gabe the baby.

They were home in ten minutes.

"Jesus, Jordan." Gabe clambered gratefully from the car. "I would've thought you'd drive a bit more carefully, with a baby on board."

"I was doing forty. You're a wimp." Jordan hesitated, before getting his bags from the boot. "You take JJ. I don't think I want to risk walking with him."

"Oh, sure. You'll drive like Evel Knievel with him on board, but you won't walk with him." Gabe smirked at Jordan, and picked up JJ. "Do you really like it?" He asked as they went inside. "The name, I mean."

"Yeah. I love it." Jordan smiled. "I love you too." Gabe smiled, blushing furiously.

"I missed you." He whispered. He smiled shyly at Jordan. Jordan carefully laid JJ in his bouncer and turned, swiftly pinning Gabe against the wall.

"I missed you too." He smirked at Gabe's startled expression, before pressing his lips hard against Gabe's. Gabe moaned softly, his lips parting to admit Jordan's probing tongue. He wrapped his arms around Jordan's neck, lifting himself onto his tiptoes. Jordan's arms tightened around Gabe's waist, closing the gap between their bodies. Gabe felt Jordan's large, warm hand splayed across his back, pulling him closer.

"Jordan," Gabe drew back with a gasp. "Not here… not yet. Not in front of him." Jordan drew back with a sigh.

"Alright." He said sadly. He smiled over at the baby. "Can I ask though… the dominatrix thing. Definitely out?" Gabe pursed his lips, frowning slightly.

"We'll see." He shoved Jordan away with a smile. "You go and have a bath. Relax a bit. I'll look after JJ." Jordan obediently went into the bathroom and sank into a warm bath. "You dad's gonna love the surprise I've got for him tonight." Gabe picked up JJ and fed him a bottle.
