Roll With It
The freeway was filled with life, and people who seemed to be in a rush to get wherever it was they were going; No one more then Jason wanted to be where he had to go. Across town, in Pico Rivera awaited his good friend Shaun, and they were going to smoke out with some bomb Kush. Five-o-clock traffic was terrible, and he waited and waited, until he finally was able to make it to the Exit.
His skyscraper-like friend meets him on the side gates with a huge smile on his face, his blue eyes shined brightly across the driveway.
“What the hell took you so long?”
“Fucker! You try driving on the freeway at 5 in the afternoon, and then ask me.” Jason said with a smirk on his face. Jason’s hazel eyes meet his friends as they exchanged a secret handshake. “That’s why I don’t drive” Shaun sticks his tough out at Jason as Jason pulls out the weed. Their faces lit as brightly as the cherry in the pot-filled bowl they packed no less then five minuets later.
Hours past, bowls were cashed, and the bright winter moon soon shined over them in the back yard of Shaun’s grandma. “Dude its 11:30. Are you good to drive?” Jason had never driven any other way but sober, before. Jason’s eyes try to focus on his dimly lit friend. Jason opens his mouth long enough to let out a laugh, and replying with a “Hell no”. They laughed loudly till Shaun covers his and his friend’s mouth because his grandma was sleeping about 20 feet away from the spot they were smoking.
“Alright man. Well let’s go get some 40’s?”
Jason’s face was baffled. “Dude we’re only 18”
“Beer Run?” Shaun mumbled softly as he pack another bowl.
“So down” they smiled with a touch of evil in their face.
They let the time past to just about 1AM. Their chairs were sinking into the grass. As they reach into the shed by the pool to grab the bikes, Adrian, Shaun’s cousin’s husband walks into the backyard. They pause, but not long enough to let out a giggle.
Adrian walks over to Shaun. Adrian was heavyset, had a goatee, and was like 5 ft tall. His deep voice penetrated through the shed walls, even as he whispered to Shaun. “What the hell you doing up?” You’re high, huh?” Adrian said with a smile.
“Yea and Jason’s here, too.”
“You guys are funny. Where you going?”
“Make a beer run.”
Adrian Smirks and asks them if they wanted him to buy it for them, but they explained to him the money dilemma. “I have a job for you instead” The high pair of teenagers look at each other with confused faces. “What job?” Shaun asks. “A simple one” Adrian says with a smirk.
The two impaired boys giggled, but held their laugh in long enough to ask what the job was.
“Big Papa needs some Hub Caps” The pair turned to each other and asked simultaneously “Hub Caps!??!”, then continued to laugh.
“What do you need hub caps for?” Jason asks.
“Not me. Big Papa needs them.”
Shaun explained to Jason that Big Papa was this old guy, who lived around the corner, and no one knew his real name, just new him by Big Papa.
“20bucks for the caps, and I’ll buy you your beer.” They couldn’t refuse the offer. After about a minuet of contemplating how to execute their plan, the boys head out to take a look at what kind of car they were getting the caps for.
The boys roll up to Big Papas on their bikes, with Adrian right on their tail with his own bike. Big Papa was sitting on the porch, but quickly stood up to greet the eager pair. “Adrian told you boys?” Big Papa whispered to the boys. “Yes sir.” Jason replies. “Okay then. We only need one, and I know the Expedition around the corner has the same kind of caps, I’ve seen it.” the old man was blunt, and was nothing but business.
“It’s 1:12 right now. If we can go, get the caps, and be back before 1:30, we’ll have enough time to get paid and get the beer before they stop selling it at 2am. Here’s the plan. You scope, I pull, and you take. Good?” Shaun’s face was tense as he took control of the operation. “Dude I feel like a we’re on a Black Ops Mission.” Shaun laughed for only a moment before returning to his serious face.
After riding two blocks, making lefts and rights, the boys approached the Expedition that Big Papa had mentioned, but they noticed the Caps on it weren’t the same ones on Big Papa’s car. “They aren’t the same ones.” Jason says.
“They look like them, but I’m not sure.”
“We don’t have time to go and check”
“Fuck it’s 1:23. Think. Think. Think.” Shaun’s eyes lit up as brightly as they had earlier when they smoked. “Fuck it. Take em all.”
Jason laughed as he began to strip the wheel of its cap. “Dude! Nice call.” They both laughed, and watched for cars as they complete the devious job.
