The sun slowly set behind the skyscrapers of the city in the distance. The house is warm as the little electric heater beat out hot air into the room.
I sat on the couch watching the TV. Would you believe me if I said I've never had a television?
Well here I am watching the news in the main room of Akatsuki's Japanese home. Akatsuki is in the kitchen cooking dinner. I could smell it from the living room. It smelt so good that my belly is rumbling. I didn't really eat anything today. Yes I know that is bad but most times I don't get hungry.
All afternoon I was relaxing and exploring the home. It's going to be the first night having dinner in Akatsuki's home…a new experience which I'm going to be a part of for a long time.
My mood has changed so much ever since lunch time. I feel somewhat safer with Akatsuki yet at the same time it feels weird that I'm living with my teacher. I wonder what everyone will say if they found out.
I'll more likely have just about everyone talking to me and about me. This will be a pain. It means no quiet lunch breaks or time on my own when I go to the library in the morning.
I sighed and slumped back into the cushions on the couch. I could hear pots and plates clink and bang as he cooked. I wonder what he is cooking. He is nosey about it which I couldn't help but almost laugh.
"Dinner is ready." He called while peeping his head out the door of the kitchen. He smiled across at me.
"Ok." I got up and used the remote to turn the TV off and walked over to the table. "Umm, would you like me to set the table?"
"Yes please. That would be nice."
"Do we need plates or bowls?" I said as I walked to the glass cabinet near the window.
"Uhh bowls please."
Akatsuki walked into the living room and placed down a tray on the black low-legged table.
I got out two rice size bowls with saucers and placed them down on the table before sitting down on a cushion on the ground. Akatsuki served up some rice into both the bowls then put a yellow sauce with chicken pieces and what looked like potato. It smelled like spices, a curry.
It looked really yummy. I picked up a spoon which was already on the table and scrapped some of the curry into my mouth. The taste burst alive in my mouth. I could taste all the different spices and chicken pieces. The potato is soft to chew. It is a mild curry but still had a little bit of a bite to it. I am pleased with the flavour and took another spoonful.
"Wow this tastes so good. You're such a great cook Akatsuki." I smiled and continued eating.
"Thank you, glad you like it."
For the next ten minutes there was silence except for the sound of our spoons hitting the China bowls. I finished up and stood holding my bowl and spoon in my hand.
"Thank you for the meal." I walked to the kitchen and put my bowl in the sink. "Would you like a drink?"
"Oh umm, a glass of water please."
I looked in the cupboards and by guess it was the right cupboard. I got out two glass cups and filled them with water before walking back to the table and sat down placing one of the cups in front of Akatsuki.
Akatsuki finished his meal then took a few gulps of the water before taking his bowl to the sink. I drink some of my water before helping clearing the table and entering the kitchen.
"I can wash up if you want me to." I said as I stood at the sink and filled it with water and soap.
"You don't have to but thank you anyway."
I suddenly felt Akatsuki's arms wrap around my body from behind. My cheeks instantly flushed red and I stood still.
"A-Akatsuki?" I wondered what he was doing.
He leant his mouth closer to my ear before mumbling. "I feel relieved that I've found you again…"
It still questions me on why does Akatsuki feel better that now he has found me. Surely I thought it was just so he could give me the locket but Akatsuki also said he wants to protect me. I don't know if it was a request from my mother or Akatsuki just requested to my mother that he wants to protect me with his own will. Just when I thought everything is starting to make sense I have yet another puzzle to solve.
Akatsuki rested his chin on my shoulder and the hug became more loose and relaxed. I looked down at the dishes thinking for a bit as there was silence between us again.
I finally broke the silence. "Akatsuki…what am I to you?" My head was still looking down.
Akatsuki paused longer. I wonder what is going through his mind right now. I also wondered what his answer was going to be. Whether he tells me the truth or hides it up with something else…I will never know…
