Dad: [clearly trying to control himself, but failing miserably] I’m only going to ask this once. What were you thinking?
Son: [confused] If this about that mark I got for science, I know it wasn’t 80% and that you expect more but I apologised already! You can’t still be angry –
Dad: [interrupts him] don’t be foolish and don’t you take me for a fool either! What in heaven’s name was going through your head?
[The son’s eyes are darting from side to side as he tries to think what he had done wrong].
Dad: To think that my son could have done something like this! This is not how I brought you up to be!
Son: Wait… [unsure] How did you find out?
Dad: I’d be a fool not to have noticed! Everything was all wrong.
Son: [eyes wide in horror] I really didn’t want for you to find out this way! You have to believe me Dad, I was going to tell you!
Dad: Please! Don’t try that trick with me. You had absolutely no intention of telling me that you used my car when you went out on Saturday.
Son: [flabbergasted] So this is not about me going out on a date with another guy?
Dad: How does that have any relevance? You took my car without – WAIT! You went on a DATE with another guy…
[The son looks at his feet. Dad stares at random space, processing the turn of events. A long awkward silence follows].
Dad: [slightly awkward, but with a commendable attempt at excitement] So… What’s he like?
