Nothing but to run By Lorenzo Portogallo

A runner by the name of Pat awoke to the sound of rain slamming off

his bedroom window. At 6am on A Tuesday morning early in July, 2006.

For Pat it was just business has usual. He through on one of his: publicly

unpopular Short running shorts, A tank top, and his pair of NewBalance.

He didn't Bother with his socks and he skipped breakfast like he always does.

After doing his stretches the rain was still pouring down when he stepped out

his kitchen door at 6:20 am. Pat's pace is around 7 min 10 sec per mile.

He hit 2 miles in 14 min 35 sec. On this rainy day he's a little off pace.

Soaking wet he made it to his favorite trail. Because it was raining for several

hours the trail had become mud infested. 1 mile into the trail Pat becomes

saturated by mud and water flow.

One more mile complete and Pat 's through the mud infested trail. Pat hits

the street again at 29 min 27 sec. Another mile complete at 36 min 33 sec.

A guy screams out of A car window " Run Forest Run". To Pat that kind

of attitude is encouraging, and adds fuel to His already blazing fire.

Pat finishes his run. Despite all the elements, he finished at 42 min 55 sec.

A 6 min 22 sec last mile. Not an elite time however, Pat will take it.
