Looking at That Reflection

Poetry By: Rachel F
Health and fitness

I am currently in the hospital fighting with Anorexia. I have had issues since I was 9 years old, and currently I am 17 years old. I am finding it hard to except who I am becoming as I restore my weight back. This poem that I wrote helps me when I am going through difficult days at the hospital. Also, it helps me when I have body image thoughts!!!! From personal experience Anorexia is a very serious illness and hard to cure. It almost took my life twice! Pray for those that you know struggle with it, because it isn't as simple as "just eating food". It is a mental illness, causing yourself to see your body in a distorted weight. You become obsessed with weight, exercise, food, and control! Pass on Anorexia Awareness!

Looking at that reflection so ugly and fat
According to the devil you will never change;

Looking at that reflection so sickly and thin
According to the monster you have to lose weight;

Looking at that reflection so gorgeous and perfect
According to the Lord you should never change;

The devil is your worst enemy
The monster is controlling
However, the Lord is your best friend
Realize this and happiness will occur.
