Perception. Theses 1
Today I offer you wisdom without agenda. In the fallen empires which liter the path of the human story, there is a pattern of wise men that went unheard until it was too late. It does seem that in order for my people - that would be the human kind - to learn the great truths throughout time, someone has to take a bullet.
There was a time when wisdom held high value. There's this one dead guy named Immanuel Kant who said that a nation should take care not to lose its philosophers, because philosophers, by their very nature, can not philosophy with political agenda. There is no longer a love for wisdom in my country. Without true, deep wisdom within my country's leadership, all that remains is a tug-of-war over power within the reigning princes of politics. Why must we always wait until it's too late? Why must we wait until the problem intensifies and someone gets hurt to seek wisdom? There are better ways.
I want to show the world how we work. Who we? All of us. On every continent, in every relationship, from every religion, in every position, from every background, and in every color. Plus everyone I left out.
We are built in a curious way. It makes us special in one way and not special in another. Philosophy and her two very disruptive children Science and Religion have been at war, competing with each other since the day the age of mankind dawned on this planet. These three guys are the ultimate dysfunctional family. To say they are not related and do not directly depend on each other is a sign that someone wants to trademark the glory of their name-brand god.
Science, religion and philosophy have proven over and over again in many different ways one truth that our Declaration of Independence declared self-evident. We are created equal… but we are all very different, which is why we needed the unalienable rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
There is a very real part of our make-up which defines who we are and who we aren't. This is the part of us that makes us… us. Some people call it the soul. This soul is composed of genetics and perception, which is built within us from the time we are born. Our perception is built by the experiences we have and the lessons we learn and what we see those around us doing. It's within our perception that emotion originates. From our perception, we make our decisions. Our morals are constructed within this part of our selves. Our ideas of glory and right and duty and honor are all drifting within how we perceive the world.
This perception is molded by the input we receive from the world.
Who do you believe yourself to be? Why?
The curious thing about our make-up is that we were built to choose. This is the one element about the human species that differs from everything else on earth. We are our choices and what we create from those choices. In order to make a choice, we must know what we are choosing from and we must be able to think in a way which will lead us to reasonable and helpful conclusions. There is no avoidance of choice. Choices made in ignorance and choices not to choose are still our responsibility.
We create ideas of who we are and we create ideas of who our neighbors are within our perception. Based on these perceptions we chose how to treat each other. You may not realize that this is going on. It is not certain whether the transference of perception into thought into choice into action is always a process or just a biological function of the human being. Which is fine, because that does not matter for my purposes.
Here is what matters, my tuned-in, networked, connected countrymen. These influential parts of our being are studied by people who make money and gain power from your choices. (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/magazine/shopping-habits.html?pagewanted=all&_r) Algorithms are built and your spending and electronic movements are tracked in order to learn what you most want to hear. Then, with that information, fine people in influential places which would have been called Rhetorists had we been born thousands of years ago, but today are called Marketers, PR Consultants, Content Writers, etc, feed you impressions twenty-four hours a day. Big Brother is unnecessary, we've done all the work for him.
Our nation was founded on a concept of competing ideas, back when ideas were composed of value beyond the dollar. Ideas such as liberty and positive social advancement. The competition of ideas was important, so that wise people seeking not to have control but to find the right way, could correct each other with pure motives and lead the country forward through history.
Today, we are overwhelmed by ideas which separate us from each other and leave the competitive market of ideas open to the power-hungry few to run unchecked. Our vote is no longer representative of who we are or what we want from our leaders. Our vote is simply used by one candidate to take control and power over the people rather than another candidate.
This is not a conspiracy. This is a world of our making. Should the government fail, it will be because we have become worse than complacent, using our choice to live concerned with petty and baseless competition between ourselves. To be better than our neighbor in superficial ways is the idea that will bring our country to its knees.
Our world is being run by this idea today. To have more, when more actually reaches a point of self destruction, only to feel better than the next guy. Facebook is a parade of need for validation, when the truth of validation comes from within, not publicly. Our music is failing, degradation is exalted as an art from, education is not about children but about money, families are falling apart, churches use the name of Christ to preach us against them doctrine, our nation sells drugs on television that promise happiness and cause people to kill themselves. We are isolated, living our reality alone while publicly playing roles which further the illusion that others should play roles which negate rationality.
The wisdom the world needs now is that this part of people is a scarce and invaluable treasure. For me, this part of me is who I am, why I do what I do, who I love. So I work to make this part of me the best and most aware part of me possible. For some, this part of our being is forgotten. And for others, this part is the key to influencing people in order to get what they want without accountability.
The authors of the Federalist Papers instructed the minority of rich, white men who founded our country that discord in the masses would prevent any unity. An ununified people will not be able to organize and hold the government accountable. Thus protecting both the few we pay in the Federal Government to shut down and the illusion that we are a representative republic. As long as we forget We the People, and continue thinking only in terms of I the rugged individual who is clearly better than my neighbor because I have purchased things like a boat and a $50 tee shirt, our nation will continue unchecked in which ever direction They the Few are leading lead us.
In the end, it really is all how you look at things. We do not get out of our responsibility simply by choosing not to look.
You are your legacy. Find the beauty within the world and become too good for the crap. Do not support an industry which produces songs about degrading women. Don't buy books that have forgotten the purpose of literature was to tell a good story. Do not applaud art which doesn't inspire. Do not attend films which tell no story and are only streaming images of senseless pain. Do not buy things which you do not need for reasons you do not understand. The negative, classless, baseless, ignorance we pretend to like builds a story of cultural identity that weak minds flock to, take back the reigns.
Bring old school valor and nobility back. From today on, understand yourself to be an elite. Elites guard their personal opinions, understanding why they hold them and never stealing them from others. Quit trying to find ways to be as good as everyone else, its destroying our nation and making people miserable!!! Instead, look for yourself and be better than you are today. If you must be a part of a decaying society, be bold enough to go down being yourself. And make it look sexy. Enlightenment during historical periods of raging hedonism is never easy, so if you want it to catch on, you gotta make it uncompromising and sexy.
