Chapter One: The Foundations.
It is the year 1524. It's been three years since the first Puertorrican Assassin Miguel Ramon Carlo de Lugo took down the Templar Juan Ponce De Leon in his attempts to steal the piece of Eden known as 'the Fountain of Youth', in what is now the peninsula of Florida in the United States. Having founded a guild there in Florida with the help of Assassins who came from Europe, in desire of new found land, Miguel returns to his homeland of San Juan, Puerto Rico. A seemingly prosperous city, with a façade of progress, visitors from all over the world had no idea of what was going on in the actual reality of this country: Slavery, abuse, and the unrighteous punishment of its native people: The Tainos. Humble natives, from the Caribbean islands, known for their sense of chivalry and respect for the true power of nature. Along with the abuse of these natives, by part of the Spanish crown's rulers in this part of the new world, were Spanish rebels, who had debts with the crown, or were against the colonization methods of the Spanish crown.
Miguel, having taken note of what was going on, decided to rally up a rogue group by himself; with only his experience and teachings from higher Assassins by that time. He established a guild secretly in the first settlement of Caparra, after lieutenant De leon's death. He rallied up traitors to the crown, teaching them the stealthy ways of the Assassin. In the City of San Juan, during midnight, Miguel took them for training, free-running over the rooftops of San Juan's buildings, and teaching young recruits the use of daggers and swords (As Hidden Blades were yet to be imported to the new world). Years after mentoring young assassins, Miguel learned the truth about the colonization attempts and the harsh slavery in Puerto Rico. He met a young woman named Anna Espinosa, the daughter of a Spanish Templar leader named Hernan Espinosa, who led one of the biggest colonization attempts in Puerto Rico. Anna accompanied her father, in belief that her father traveled to the new world in search of discovery. After coming to Puerto Rico and seeing the abuse her father had brought upon the slaves he had brought with him and his captains. One night, in the bay of San Juan, she saw these nightly figures running around the rooftops near her home. Much to her curiosity, she decided to check out what was going on, only to find out it was a chase between hooded men, and a Spaniard. These men, with great agility, chased down the Spaniard, and one of them struck the man with a bolt in the back, and the other, slashed his throat. When this man dropped to his death to the floor, the hooded men took a second of silence and one of them whispered the words 'Que la paz sea contigo, ahora descansa en el sendero de la libertad.' Anna stood still, in shock to what had happened, whilst one of these hooded men walked towards to her and said: 'Los hombres no son herramientas que el Español controla libremente.' (Men are not meant to be tools used freely by the Spaniard.) Anna, readied with blade in hand to attack this man, said to him: 'Who are you?! What did you just do?! Do you have any idea what you have done?! That man was A--' 'We know.', The hooded man desponded. 'He was a slave trader, Francisco Aguilar, and an information broker for the colonists. We have tracked his movements for days, and with him gone, a few Esclavos (slaves) will have liberty tonight. No cumplimos nuestra mision a largo plazo, pero al menos dimos un paso más hacia lo que queremos. (We didn't accomplish our mission in long term, but at least we have a step forward towards what we want.)
'Yo soy (I am) Miguel Ramon Carlo de Lugo, an Assassin. We fight to see the day where this island will have liberty, and where man can have free will, and right to do, and not do. To be, and not be.' These words were the first words ever spoken to a templar from Miguel's part. And the only words to change Espinosa's mind, and with time betray her own father, and paving the way for a new bloodline of Assassins in this country…
