The Tower of London
Betrayal. Bitterness. Loss. Deprival. And soon: Death.
I had been betrayed, horribly, horribly betrayed. My husband had sentenced me to die. I was locked away in The Tower. I suddenly felt more like Meg that Queen Margaret. I was no longer a little girl of no importance, but I did not feel like the Queen. My husband, The King, was probably off with that horrible Elizabeth Ellwood!
And what had become of my daughter, Elba? Would Elizabeth treat her as cruelly as I treated Philippa? Speaking of Philippa, would she ever forgive me? As I sat in the cold dungeon cell I wondered if there would be a place for me to go after I died. Would it hurt? Had The Lord forgiven me? Had my greatest sin, the sin of pride, been forgiven after all? Would it be a girl called Meg who would die today, or would it be Margaret; the doomed queen?
