I wish I was the moon tonight......
My name is Annabel Hallow, daughter of Fred and Ann Hallow, my parents who recently went missing. Tonight is my 21st birthday, my best friend is taking me to this new club in NYC, I'm excited but I have this uneasy feeling that I just can't shake off. Oh well, I need this.
The laptop click shut and Annabel sat on the edge of her bed, she was 21 but her room looked as though a teenager lived there. She gazed out the window, the sun was slowly disappearing behind the buildings. That was when she heard a knock coming from the front door, downstairs. She hopped off the bed and walked out of her room.
At the large glass door stood a short girl with blonde hair, much different than the tall dark haired girl Annabel was, but it was her best friend, Sage Morrison. Sage smiled and waved, her pink dress barely leaving anything to the imagination. Annabel waved back and opened the door, receiving a tight hug from her friend and then handed a Victoria Secret bag.
"What's this?" Annabel arched her eyebrow, knowing what was in the bag already but a bit shocked that her ex-boyfriend would actually have Sage give this to her.
"It's from Frank, my guess it's something sexy that he wants you to wear for him tonight." Sage rolled her eyes, she never liked Frank, she believed he was mean and controlling towards Annabel.
Annabel slid her fingers in the bag and pulled out a black and white lingerie. "Oh god!" She shoved it back in the bag and tossed it to the side. "I wish he'd stop, I didn't fuck him while we were together and I'm not going to fuck him now." She grabbed her purse that was hanging on a hook near the door. "Let's go."
"I hope you stay true to your words." Sage said after a few moments of silence as they drove down the suburb roads. "I know he can be charming and all, and I also know it's not my place to speak, but I'm scared for you, Anna. He's not nice, at all."
"I know, Sage. Don't worry, I doubt he'll even show up at the club tonight." Annabel turned her head, looking out the window, it was dark now. The moonlight lit up the dark roads. She thought about Frank, he had always tried to have sex with her whenever they had a second to be alone, Annabel refused, she was a virgin and was a bit nervous to loose it, especially to someone like Frank.
While the girls drove down the back roads, heading up towards the city, the sang to the popular pop songs that played on the radio and danced a bit as they did. Sage glanced over at Annabel for just a second when Annabel caught something out of the corner of her eyes.
"Stop!" She screamed, their bodies slamming forward as Sage slammed on the breaks, screeching of the wheels probably scaring off any animal in the near distance.
"Oh my god, what the fuck?" Sage was taking long deep breaths, looking around at the empty road.
"I swear to god someone was standing right there with his hand up." Sage gave Annabel a odd look, then shook her head.
"There's no one there, Anna." She slowly released the break and continued driving.
That uneasy feeling Annabel had before rose higher and higher in the pit of her stomach, she would have sworn a tall man had been standing there, a worry look on his face. But she had to let it go, it must have just been her imagination, those fears of hers playing with her head. It was too late to turn back anyway.
The girls didn't speak much for the rest of the ride, the radio just quietly played in the background as the drove the rest of the way to the club. When they arrived, they stood outside in a line, it took a little bit until they finally were able to get in, but when they did they were more than glad. The cold night air had been nipping at their bare skin, Annabel wanted to scream but the warmth of the club changed that.
"Sage..." She leaned against her friends ear, feeling on edge. "I think we should go." She continued on, Sage giving her a look of disappointment.
"But we just got here." Her friend shouted back over the loud music, making her way to a couple of their mutual friends. After a few drinks, they were all up and dancing, except Annabel.
The strobe lights were making Annabel dizzy so she headed towards the girls bathroom, without giving Frank, who was standing nearby, a second glance. She had left his stare all night, but she also felt someone unfamiliar staring at her.
When she got to the bathroom, she was alone, which she thought was unusual for a nightclub. Her blurred self stared back at her from the mirror, she sighed and leaned her hands on the sink, closing her eyes, trying to drown out the loud music. When she looked up she was greeted by men's feet standing in the stall behind her.
Annabel jumped and quickly turned around, kicking open the bathroom door, but no one was there. She swallowed hard, what was wrong with her, she thought. Two times in a row she saw something that was not there, she began feeling sick and ran out of the bathroom.
"What are you running from?" Frank's hand wrapped around Annabel's upper arm, swinging her back and slamming into his chest.
"Let go of me!" She struggled against his chest, she could smell other women on him, it was obvious he didn't need her, but he refused to let it go. He was angry with her for breaking up with him, something no girl has done before.
"No, stop." He said, tightly squeezing his arms around her, waiting for her body to relex. "Did you get my present?" Annabel struggled again before he let go and she shoved him, making his back hit the wall.
"Fuck you." She said, remembering all the bad he's done to her, keeping those fresh in her mind helped her resist his good looks and warm embrace. She heard Frank laugh as she made her way back through the crowd, finding Sage in the middle of it all.
The rest of the night was a blur, she didn't even remember how they got home. But here she was in her bed, still in the clothes she was wearing the night before. All alone.
Had to head home, last night was fun. Call you later -S The note was on top of Annabel's laptop, she sighed, feeling better knowing Sage had been there recently and she was safe. Flipping open her laptop, she logged onto aboutme.org and began writing her second journal.
Last night is a blur, I remember seeing my crazy ex, he smelled of cheap lady body spray. Why he won't leave me alone, I'll never know. I wish I wouldn't have drank so much, but I needed it. I needed that escape, I just hate not knowing what I had done.
She stopped writing when the sound of a soft bell came from her computer, an instant message was blinking at the bottom of the screen. She clicked on it. It was from someone who had read her first entry on the website.
L.34.Nelson: Hey, I hope you don't mind me messaging you, but I just read your entry and I wanted to know if you got home all right? I know how having an uneasy feeling feels, and I know most of the time you shouldn't ignore that feeling.....
Annabel was chewing on her nails, staring at the instant message.
Anna_Bee: Hi.. I don't mind. Um, thanks for asking but I'm fine. She hit send.
After a few minutes that same person messaged her, she was a little annoyed that this complete stranger was taking interest in her, but that's what she gets for posting her life online, what did she expect?
"I should have just wrote in a diary." She shook her head reading his next message.
L.34.Nelson: That's good. Sorry, I know it's weird, a complete stranger just messaging you.
Had he read her mind? She thought.
Anna_Bee: It's okay.
L.34.Nelson: I'm Luther, by the way. But you can call me Luke if you'd like. :)
During the coarse of the next week, Luke and Annabel began messing each other every night, all night, Annabel often missing much needed sleep. But Luke made her feel good, he was polite and nice to her, he was handsome as well. She liked him, a lot, that uneasy feeling she had always faded when she spoke to him.
Anna_Bee: I want to meet you.
It wasn't something she thought long and hard about, she just said it. And once it was sent, there was no turning back. She nervously chewed on her nails, waiting for his reply.
L.34.Nelson: I'd love to meet you, how about in an hour?
I know it's kinda of a slow chapter, but I promise in the next chapters, things get more interesting. I haven't edited this, so I'm sure there are mistakes, please forgive me. :]
