A trail of blood formed behind me as it dripped off of my skin. I felt the heat of the flames as I walked away from the destruction I had caused. I had finally gotten revenge on those who have used me. Revenge for my loved ones who were killed by these monsters. The monsters who have cursed me.
I have nowhere to go now. I no longer have a purpose now that they are all dead. But now I can start my life anew. I can change who I am and my background. I will rid my mind of the memories of the past and look forward to the future.
When I reached the edge of the woods, I looked to see the place that had been my prison since I was a child. The flames danced as they engulfed everything. Tears filled my eyes and ran down my cheek. It mixed with the blood on my face making it look like I was crying tears of blood.
Five years later…
I leaned up against a wall in a dark ally. The shadows cloaked me and made me invisible. I watched the tavern door. I'm a predator waiting for her prey to come out. I am a bounty hunter. I just got a tip on the criminal that I've been searching for.
His name is Rodney Gorad. He's about five foot seven with blonde hair and dark brown eyes. He's wanted for six counts of rape. They were offering two hundred gold coins as bounty for his head. He is known to look for his victims at local taverns. Usually it's a young female or a prostitute. But tonight he has become the hunted and I'm the hunter.
I was happy when I found out that he had come here to the small town of Deolve. That meant I didn't have to spend weeks going from town to town in order to find him. There's only one tavern in this town, so it's easy to find him. I've been waiting hours for him to come out. Now, I'm starting to think it was only a false lead.
I looked at the tavern door, glad that I was actually mistaken. He walked out with a frown on his face. It looked like nobody was with him tonight. I smiled to myself. If he's looking for a date then I'm willing to be his last date before he goes to jail.
He started walking down the road. I laid flat against the wall so I could become completely covered in the darkness. Rodney walked right past the ally and didn't even notice me. The strong scent of alcohol clung to him. He'd been drinking heavily tonight. Most likely to drink his depression away for not finding a victim tonight.
I quietly followed him; keeping a good distance between us. I followed him for quite some time, using the darkness to hide me. He lead me to the other side of town and went into an inn. I stood out in the ally way and watched as he and the manager got into an argument. The manager kicked Gorad out, most likely because he didn't have any money.
He started heading my way. Now was be the best time to get him. I wanted hurry up and get home. Shrouded in darkness, he didn't even look my way as he walked past me. I walked up behind him and lightly tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and I punched him right in the face. He staggered back and landed on his ass. I guess he was a little more intoxicated than I thought. I hadn't even use my full strength.
"Hey, what's the deal you crazy bitch!?" he yelled.
I just stared at him, not saying a word.
"So you have nothing to say huh? Are you scared? You should be." He said getting up. He looked me up and down and smiled. "I didn't think I would find a girl tonight, but you're good enough. I'll take you right now."
"You can just go to hell you son of bitch." I said.
"What did you say to me you whore? I'll teach you not to mess with me. I'll enjoy hearing you scream."
He charged at me, fist raised. I got into a stance and prepared for his attack. When he got close enough, he threw a punch at me. I easily dodged his attack and grabbed his wrist. I twisted his arm behind his back and slammed him up against the ally wall. He struggled, but I easily overpowered him.
"What is this? No, woman can be this strong." he says.
"Shut up. I'm taking you to the authorities." I said.
"The authorities? Who are you?"
"I'm Bounty Hunter Mina Sang. I'm going to take you to the authorities and collect the bounty that's on your head." I said.
"A bounty hunter?" Gorad burst out laughing. "A girl like you a bounty hunter? That's good. Sorry babe, but you're not taking me to the authorities. But if you let go of me now I'll make sure I won't hurt you bad."
"I would so like to see you try to hurt me." I said.
He started struggling again. It was a futile attempt, since he wouldn't be able to break free of my hold. The fact that he was a little intoxicated made it easier for me. But if he keeps on struggling it'll be annoying when I take to the authorities. Unfortunately, I just realized I forgot my handcuffs at home. That would have made things a lot easier. Annoyed by his struggling I took the wrist I already had a hold of, and with a loud crack, I broke it. He let out a blood curdling scream. I slammed him against the wall and he shut up instantly.
"Now like I said, I'm taking to the authorities and you're going to come quietly. Understand? I said do you understand?" I said. When he didn't answer I put a little more pressure onto his broken wrist. He screamed and I slammed him up against the wall. "Do you understand?" I whispered dangerously in his ear.
"Y-y-yes m-ma'am." he said. He was obviously scared of me now. There was fear in his voice and tears were rolling down his cheek.
We started walking to the station. He didn't say anything and he didn't try to escape. I'm glad that he learned his lesson. If he had learned it earlier, then I wouldn't have broken his wrist. But then again, he didn't see me as a threat like he does now. I can't really say I blame him. I'm five foot five with long black hair, I mean the type of black hair that looks like is has blue mixed in, and emerald green eyes. Skin almost pale of that of a vampire. A shiver went down my spine. I hated thinking about vampires. The terrible memories will come back if I do. I'm trying my best to forget about my past.
It didn't take long before we were at the station. We walked up the stairs and through the door. I didn't even hear a peep out of this guy. I must have scared him pretty badly. The police stared at us as we walked in. They look at Gorad, who looked like a scared child. Some raise their eyebrows questioningly. I gave them all a sweet smile and walked to the front desk.
At the desk, the cop was looking at some paper work; he looked up as we approached. The officer at the desk was officer Haynes. He's been a good friend of mine since I came to this town.
"How may I help you Mina?" he asked.
"I've come to collect my bounty. This is Rodney Gorad and I'm here to collect the two hundred gold reward." I said.
Haynes looked at me and then looked at Gorad. "This is the fifth person you've brought in these past two months. Can you keep him for a while?" Haynes said jokingly.
Gorad didn't see it as a joke. He thought Haynes was being serious. He started to struggle. I saw fear in his eyes as he tried to get away from me. I had scared him shitless. He was causing such a big commotion, that others were beginning to stop what they were doing to stare at us.
"No! No! I don't want to stay with her. I would rather be locked up in a jail cell than to stay with that monster." he screamed.
Now a crowd was starting to form around us. He continued to scream and struggle. I didn't know I had scared him that bad. All I did was break his wrist and torture him a tiny bit. He shouldn't be this afraid. I guess he doesn't know real pain or real fear.
Old memories tried to surface, making me remember of the pain and fear I felt as a child. No, I will not remember. I will forget about my past. I only have to look to the future. I'm a new person now.
"Someone get this fool and take him to a cell." Haynes yelled.
Two officers took Gorad away. He kept screaming about how I was a monster. I didn't really care. I've been called worse before. Besides I think he got what he deserved. For once he knew what it like to be scared and in pain.
"Don't think twice about what he said Mina. You're not a monster. You're strong for a girl your age and a really good fighter, but you're not a monster." Haynes said.
"I'm not worried about what he called me. I'm more worried about getting my money. A girl has to eat you know." I said.
He laughed and handed me the bag of two hundred gold coins. I took the bag and walked out of the station. I threw the bag up into the air and caught. There was more than enough to by something a little extra than food. Maybe I'll buy some new weapons. I've been needing to get a set of daggers and throwing knives.
I thought about how Gorad kept calling me a monster. Haynes had only thought that I was a girl gifted with strength and the ability to fight as good as any man. But I wonder how he and the others would react if they found out that Gorad was more right than they thought.
