Hi. My name's Natalie and I'm the leader of the vampires. Or, used to be, until they kicked me out of the coven. This is my story…
"One of our vampires has been killed."
My eyes snapped up. "What?"
"One vampire is dead."
"How?" I asked.
"Stake right through the heart." Rose replied.
Rose was my best friend for as long as I could remember, but she was of low ranking. We could not show the other vampires that we were friends, or I would loose my position as leader.
"Do you have any idea who did this?"
"Most likely a human. A vampire hunter."
"Another vampire has been killed." Rose reported.
I sighed. This was the seventh vampire killed in 2 month. Some human must be really angry.
"Stake again?" I asked.
"We need to take some action. We can't just let those humans kill us like this. We have to do something!" Someone from the crowd shouted.
"Yes, but what?" I asked them.
"Send every vampire to find the human and kill them, no matter how many people need to die on the way!" Poppy replied.
Poppy had always loved a bloodbath.
"What would the cops think?" Rose spoke up.
"Who cares?" Poppy said, "All that matters is that no more vampires die."
"No, humans have lives too. We cant just kill them." I said.
"When did you get so soft?" Poppy demanded.
I shook my head.
Poppy turned to the others , "What do you think?"
There was a lot of noise from the crowd.
"Shut the hell up!" I shouted over the noise and they were silent.
"I call for a vote." Rose said.
The vampires agreed.
"Who votes for Natalie?"
Some of the hands went up.
"Who votes for Poppy?"
More hands went up.
"Who just doesn't care?"
A few hands.
"Poppy's won." Rose said reluctantly.
I nodded, "You're in charge of this." I said to Poppy.
"Natalie!" Poppy limped across the hall, "I found the human!"
I stood up, "Who?"
"Bring her in." Poppy commanded.
Rose and her sister Charlotte came in, holding a girl between them. The girl looked frightened.
"Are you sure it was her?" I asked Poppy.
I walked towards the girl, "What's your name?", I asked her.
She didn't reply.
"What is your name?" I repeated.
"Amy Oleander." She replied quietly.
I raised an eyebrow.
"It wasn't me killing those vampires!" She blurted.
"How do you know about that if you were not the one doing it?" Poppy demanded.
"I know all about vampires. I been obsessed by them since I was seven." She explained.
"Is she lying?" Poppy asked me.
I could tell if people were lying or not, that was one of the reasons why they made me their leader..
"No, Poppy, she's not lying." I said.
"Poppy?" Amy said disbelievingly, "Poppy Fey?"
"What?" Poppy's voice was cold.
"I'm surprised you didn't kill me."
Poppy glared at her, "Yet."
Amy shrank back.
"What are we going to do with her?" Rose asked me.
"What is there to do?" Poppy shouted , "She has to die! She knows too much!"
"She may be useful." I said.
"And she may not be useful!" Poppy argued.
I opened my mouth to say something back but I was interrupted by Amy.
"I know who was doing it!" She said.
"Who?" Poppy asked.
"Promise you won't kill me."
"Promise not to kill the person."
"Fine, WHO?" Poppy snapped.
"My brother." Amy said quietly.
"What's his name?" I asked softly.
"Richard Oleander." Amy said.
I thought. There were just loads of questions spinning around. Instead of asking them, I said, "Take Amy to a spare room."
Charlotte and Rose disappeared with Amy. I turned to face the vampires.
"What now?" I asked.
"You're the leader," Poppy said. "Unless you want to step down and let me take over. I'd be happy to."
