All I felt was rush. No pain, no satisfactory pulse when I got one over this arsehole.
I didn’t know who was winning, anything that was going on around me, nothing.
All I was aware of was the combat. We were biting, punching, kicking, scratching, absolutely anything you could do to hurt someone, plus a couple more. Then plus another couple more because we were vampires.
Reaper scratched right down my stomach, leaving a huge, five clawed bleeding mark down my chest.
Ouch! That’s gonna sting in the morning. He’s going to fucking pay for that one.
I punched him right in the face, knocking one of his teeth out. Not a vampire fang, just a regular human tooth.
“That’s how real men fight,” I mocked, “none of this biting and scratching shit. That’s for pussies.”
Reaper grimaced and kicked me back, in the stomach, sending me hurtling backwards. I saw an angry look on his bloodied face. “That good enough for you, punk?”
“Just about,” I retorted, stunned. Fuck. Can’t let my guard down again.
“Come on,” encouraged Rose, “Get up! You’re not letting a little thing like pain get to you, are you?”
“No…”
I just looked at her beautiful, sexy face, and all I needed to get up was there.
I stood up and faced Reaper in the eye.
“Look punk,” he said, “this whole thing is pointless.Do you even know how to kill a vampire?”
“No,” I replied, “but I sure as hell know how to beat the shit out of you.”
“This one’s a tough cookie. Well, then, have it your way,” he said, launching a punch at me.
I blocked and proceeded to bite his face, but he hit me underhand by lodging a kick in between my legs. O-U-C-H!!
Now he really had me pissed off. I lunged with my mouth at his face.
I sank my fangs into the corners of his forehead, leaving four dents embedded in his face, just to add to his already bloody face.
He looked decidedly stupid and allowed myself a smirk.
“You think you're so funny don’t you, you little twat!!” screamed Reaper, blood running down his face.
“NO!! NO MORE FUCKING AROUND!! Come on kid, I’m going to FUCKING DESTROY YOU!!”
He reached out to me, as if to grab my face, but then his hand went right through me.
I felt faint. I was weak. I fell. I was falling unconscious, I think. I’m not sore. There is no pain.
“Touch of the Vampire.”
That was the last thing I heard, before everything went blank.
***************
When I awoke, I was lying in a darkened room, which was extremely cold. My body was covered in goosebumps and bruises.
As far as I could see, no-one else was in the room.
But it was dark, so I wasn’t sure.
I heard a distant sound, from the other side of the room. Two people were talking.
“He’s probably awake by now.”
“Yeah, let’s go get him.”
Then I heard footsteps, walking towards me.
“Bleh… here he is.”
“Well, see if he’s awake.”
My eyes were starting to adjust to the darkness. I could see two figures standing over me. A short one and a taller one (he wasn’t a giant; he was just taller than the other guy). The smaller one had a mop of mid length, curly, dark blond hair. The taller one had straight brown hair and was wearing glasses.
Biting his nails, the bespecled man gave a faint, “I see your, um, awake. ‘N stuff.”
“Yeah,” said the other one. “Come on Alan, we’ve gotta do better than that…”
“’K David, you do it better then!”
I stared at these two strange people, dumbstruck.
The one wearing glasses, Alan, laughed loudly. “We get that a lot.”
“OK,” I said, “Tell me what the fuck happened.”“The Touch of the Vampire…” said Alan more seriously. “um, David can explain it better.”
“It’s – it’s a technique Reaper uses.”
He seemed uneasy about it.
“He… goes back… to when he died. He makes himself a ghostlike thing… and then his touch… it’s as if a tub of ice is being poured over your body… its horrible…”
“I know…” I replied, “so that’s what it was?”
“Yup,” confirmed David, “he only uses it in extreme circumstances, ‘cause he has to spend hours making his boy solid again.”
“And then you…?”
“What? Um, we brought you here, y’know, give you some rest.”
“Now I’m awake, what do want me to do?”
“Um, well, we were thinking of taking you, like, with us.”
I didn’t like the idea of staying with them. The pair were clearly eccentric, and nerdy. And I doubt they would accept the killing of humans, even if they were vampires, they seemed like the type who would work a way around harming humans.
I decided to change the subject. “Are you…?”
“What?” replied Alan, “vampires? Yup, died, ‘bout… a year ago…”
“Yeah,” added David, “Don’t wanna do that again. Like, ever.”
I decided it was time to leave. I had all the information I needed.
“Thanks for your offer,” I said, getting up from the bed I was lying on, “but I’m leaving now. I’m better off on my own”
I began to walk towards the door.
“No you’re not,” protested David.
“Yeah, what're you gunna do anyhoo? Go after Reaper and get your arse kicked again?” added Alan
“Maybe…” I replied, “Have you fuckers got a problem with that?”
“You’re not ready,” stated David.”
I turned around in a rage.
“Really?” I growled, “What makes you say that?!”
Bluntly, Alan stated, “Well, he beat the shit out of you didn’t he?”
“SO?!” I roared, “What've you got to offer me? How are you going to help me beat him? I told you, I’m better off on my own!!”
“Wait,” Alan pleaded, “we can give you a home. A place to stay. A-a family, of sorts…”
“I don’t need any of that shit. I – I just – I’m not READY!!”
I could hear Alan’s pleads for me to stay, but it was too late.
