Adrian pulled her arm out of the vice just as her father was coming up the stairs. Bruises went up and down her arm. Of course they weren't from her mother, but her father didn't need to know that.

"Daddy, my arm still hurts." She cried.

Mr.Wells shuddered at the bruises on Adrian's arm. He whisked her away and sat her gently in the car.

"It's okay, it's okay, daddy's here. Mommy won't hurt you anymore. Daddy's got you."

Adrian smiled. She had her father right where she wanted him.

"Daddy, I don't think mommy likes me."Adrian said quietly.

"Mommy likes you, she just got angry. Mommy had a rough day."

"But she's always hurting me." Adrian lied through her teeth.

"What do you mean, Adrian?"

"It's usually when you're not around, but she always seems to be angry around me."

"What has she done?"

"She usually takes the ruler that she has hidden in her drawer and smacks me with it."

"Adrian?"

"Daddy, would I lie to you?"

"Of course, not. I love you."

"I love you too, Daddy."

Everything was working out great.
