There comes a point in everyone's life when you just want to quit, when enough is enough. Eva had reached that moment. She’d tidied her apartment, written the letters and was now preparing to leave. Her chosen point of departure was the old mill on the edge of town. Eva felt that suicide shouldn’t be too public, but that there should be an air of drama involved. The mill was the ideal place, it had a reputation of being haunted, so she should be in good company after her death.
Eva had dressed especially for the occasion. A black lace bustier, black leather skirt, thigh length leather boots…this was definitely going to be a dramatic ending. Picking up her long leather coat, Eva checked her hair and make-up before leaving her apartment and beginning her last journey on Earth.

When Eva arrived at the mill, she went inside and took a look around to make sure the place was empty, then walked into to the middle of the room. Laying her coat down on the floor, she sat down and placed a the small box she’d carefully carried, down in front of her.
Removing a small glass, some sugar cubes, a bottle of water and a silver slotted teaspoon, Eva carefully placed them in front of her before taking out her prize possession…absinthe. Pouring a shot of absinthe into the glass, she carefully placed a sugar cube on the spoon and rested it on top of the glass. Then very slowly she dripped some of the ice cold water on to the sugar lump and watched as the absinthe started to turn milky.
Then Eva took a container out of the box and opened it carefully. Several months ago she’d stopped taking her anti-depressants, she had still collected the prescriptions, saving them for this moment. Eva meticulously laid out the tablets in front of her…the stage was set, now it was time for the dramatic exit.
Engrossed in her preparations, Eva didn’t notice a tall shadowy figure appear behind her. Malik had been watching Eva closely, he had to wait for the right moment before making a move. Eva put the first handful of tablets into her mouth and took a sip of the absinthe, then repeated the procedure. She smiled to herself as the room started spinning round.
Sensing Eva’s soul preparing to leave her body, Malik stepped forward and put his hand on her head. There was a blinding flash of light, Malik caught Eva’s soul as her body fell backwards. This moment of separation was never easy, Malik waited for Eva’s soul to take form before gently laying her down, and kneeling beside her.
For a moment all Eva saw was darkness, then she slowly opened her eyes and looked up at Malik.
“Is it over, am I dead?”
“No you are not dead, neither are you alive, all will be explained when the transition is complete”
Eva closed her eyes as Malik picked her up in his arms, he looked down at the dead body he’d left behind, then he carried her out of the mill, to a waiting car. Carefully placing Eva on the back seat, Malik sat down beside her and looked up at the driver.
    “Take us home”
