Horror Haiku Collection: Mysteries Of The Night

Poetry By: Philip Roberts
Horror

As long as you make a short, sharp statement with each haiku, the theme can be anything. In this collection I have given a mixture of vampire and horror verses.

EVIL APPROACHES
Footsteps in the hall
Wing beats in the darkness,
Danger drawing nearer.

EVIL LURKING NEAR
Footsteps on the sill
Dark shadows by your window,
Evil lurking near.

AN EVIL PRESENCE HOVERING
An evil presence
Seeks you in the still, clear night
Hovering nearby.

AN EVIL TALISMAN
Evil amulet made
Of burnished black stone,
Used to call Great Cthulhu.

EYES IN THE DARKNESS
Eyes in the darkness
Burning like living embers,
Deep into your soul.

THE FEATHERED SERPENT GOD
Feathered serpent god
Ignorant superstition?
Or awful truth?

GRAVEYARD CREATURES
Graveyard creatures lurk
Beside a crumbling tombstone,
Evil soon to come.

GRAVEYARD CREATURES LURK
Graveyard creatures lurk
In shadows thrown by tombstones,
Killing those who mourn.

GRAVEYARD FIENDS
Graveyard fiends follow
After living prey, walking
Through a sunken crypt.

GRAVEYARD SHIFT
Working after
midnight
In a crumbling villa;
Ancient creatures stir.

GRUESOME CREATURES
Gruesome creatures wait
To quench their evil thirst,
Feeding from arteries

HACKLES RAISED IN TERROR
Hackles raised in terror
Of a long-dead master,
Risen from the grave.

HORROR FLOODS THROUGH YOUR SYSTEM
Horror floods your system
As coffin-dwellers call,
Hunting after blood.

HOUSE OF MISERY
House of misery
Where souls lost to torment,
Walk the eerie darkness.

THE HOUSE OF TERROR
House of terror where
Only fear can flourish, and
Only evil lives.

HOWLING IN THE NIGHT
Howling in the dark
Late one lonely night:
A carnivore approaches.

HUGE, MONSTROUS HANDS

The cracking of bones
(As fragile as sticks of chalk),
In huge, monstrous hands.

HUMAN FOOD
Ghastly creatures hide
In deep, dark, lonely crypts,
Awaiting human food.

HUNTING AFTER TWILIGHT
(II)
Evil creatures slink
Through the spreading shadows,
Hunting after twilight.

HUNTING THROUGH THE SWAMP
Carapaced monsters
With Gator-like Snapping jaws,
Hunting through the swamp.

THE HYDRA
The hydra hisses,
Lurking outside your bedroom door,
Only sleep saves you.

I AM NYARLATHOTEP!
A mushroom-cloud rises:
"I am Nyarlathotep!"
Says its voice of doom.

ICY COLD SIMITARS
Ice cold scimitars
Like the claws of death itself,
Caressing your spine.

THE ICY HAND OF DEATH

Icy hands of fear
Playing upon your spine like,
The fingers of death.

IDENTITY CRISIS
Troubled by the visage
Of a dark, unsmiling twin,
Evil dwells within.

IMMENSE APE-LIKE FIENDS
Immense ape-like fiends
With jointed arms which hang down,
Almost to the knees.

IMMENSE, HIDEOUS MONSTERS
Immense monsters
Too hideous to believe,
Lurching toward their prey.

IMMENSE RUGOSE CONES
Immense rugose cones
(Oozing foul-smelling slime),
From another dimension.

IN HIS CASKET
Calmly reclining
In his casket by day;
At night-time he emerges.

MYSTERIES OF THE NIGHT
Mysteries of night
Hold no terrors for me, for
People call me death.

NIGHT FEARS
Fear invades your mind;
Grows like lengthening shadows,
In the coming dusk.

NIGHT FLOATERS (I)
Night floaters skimming
Softly above your head,
Drifting down toward you.

NIGHT HORRORS (II)
Panic in the night;
Evil too great to mention,
Loping through the woods.

NIGHT HOWLING
A mournful howling
Disturbs the quiet night;
Death creeps slowly nearer.

NIGHT FLYERS (II)
Night flyers sailing
Inches above the treetops,
Searching for a kill.

NIGHT GAUNTS (II)
Night Gaunts haunt your nights
Elephantine shapes are winging,
Round and round your head.

THE
NIGHT FOREST
The forest comes to life
In the dark of night, with
Crawling, hopping death.

NIGHT HORDES
Hordes of screeching fiends
Plot evil, as their victims
Sleep on unawares.

NIGHT HORRORS (I)
Horror in the night;
Evil too great to mention,
Loping through the woods.

NIGHT HUNTERS
Night hunters stalking
Through the lethal forestland,
Hungry for a kill.

THE END
