A painting done by a madman
More monstrous than words can tell:
A squelching gelatinous mass
Protoplasmic without true form
Pseudopods instead of true feet
Secreting evil silvery slime,
Like a gargantuan gastropod
Oozing along on its own slime trail.

Tentacles where arms should be
Star-shaped head on squat shoulders,
No neck to separate the two.
A myriad ghastly writhing slashes
More like gashes than proper mouths,
Sharklike teeth circling around
In ever-changing orifices.

Yellow, lidless globes shining
Snake eyes behind which
Little true intelligence lurks,
More like evil, animal cunning
Than intellect controls the thing.
An entity more than a beast
A man-sized blob of living gelatine,
Green and slimy and horrible
Too horrible to ever contemplate.
