Drip, drip, drip...

I've been listening to that for a while now. It's getting on my nerves, but there's nothing I can really do about it. May as well try and ignore it, try and get some sleep.

Drip, drip, drip...

I Just have to ignore it...

Drip, drip, drip...

Ignore it and it will go away...

"Aw hell!" I groan finally, eyes snapping open. I take in the famliar sight of my bedroom in the dark. I glance at my alarm clock, the luminous clock hands tell me it's about 2 a.m. I curse quietly and roll out of bed onto the floor, landing on my feet like a cat. I creep past my laptop, which is on sleep mode, and down the stairs to the kitchen. There's no dripping taps in here, which I'd have thought was the cause of my sleeplessness. Now I have to go search for it properly. Damn.

I climb the stairs to the bathroom, and again notice nothing amiss. Scowling, I go back to bed, swearing to myself that I will just forget it and go to sleep. It doesn't happen.

I toss and turn, bury my head under the pillow and it just keeps getting louder and louder. I sit up and turn my lamp on, furious.

Then I notice it.

The blood.

Dripping down the wall, pooling on the floor, it's everywhere, and it's fresh. Now I hear the screaming; I don't want to know where it's coming from, but it too keeps getting louder and louder. It's not a proper scream either, it's not normal at all, it echoes and bounces off the walls, new inhuman wails adding to the ones already attacking my ears, creating a huge shrieking mess of sound. I cover my ears, begging it to stop. Of course, then I start to hear other things, like manical laughter and thuds and yells. I don't think I can take anymore.

Then it stops. Then it's silent. I look down and see blood on my hands, blood on my clothes. A huge, crudely carved gash in my chest.

Drip, drip, drip...
