brucek's verse writing challenge

Miscellaneous By: brucek
Humor

I've had an idea for a challenge. Sorry, there are no prizes, and no one wins or loses. What you see below are the lyrics of Bob Dylan's famous song, "Maggie's Farm" but with two additional verses that I wrote. (Mine are the ones about the dog and the grandma). I actually sang this at an open mike night at a local bar about a year ago. I got a mixed reaction (I saw one guy tapping his foot, but everyone else was loading their weapons). There is only one rule to my challenge. In order to be allowed to make a comment you also have to write and include at least one verse to go along with Bob's song. Please be sure your verse (or verses) follow the same form as the others. This should be fun. I'm intrigued to hear about the differnt people and places where you guys don't want to work. If we can make it up to twenty verses there will be a party at my house (BYOB).

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

Well, I wake up in the morning,

Fold my hands and pray for rain.

I got a head full of ideas

That are driving me insane.

It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

-

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

Well he hands you a nickel,

He hands you a dime

He asks you with a grin

If you're having a good time,

Then he finds you every time you slam the door.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

-

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

Well, he puts his cigar

Out in your face just for kicks.

His bedroom window

It is made out of bricks.

The National Guard stands around his door.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

-

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

Well, she talks to all the servants

About man and God and law

Everybody says

She's the brains behind pa.

She's sixty-eight, but she says she's fifty-four.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

-

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's dog no more.

No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's dog no more.

Well, I give him his kibbles

I even give him a bone.

I pet him 'till my arm falls off

Just as soon as I get home.

I walk him but he still pees on all the floors.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's dog no more.

-

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's grandma no more.

No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's grandma no more.

Well, she says she liked the Beatles

She says she liked the Stones.

She even liked Bob Dylan,

But only when she was stoned.

She talks about the sixties until I snore.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's grandma no more.

-

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

Well, I try my best

To be just like I am,

But everybody wants you

To be just like them.

They say, "sing while you slave", but I just get bored.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
