"Small Strokes Fell Great Oaks" (explained)
Peter "Johnson" Strokes, (alias Small Strokes, alias Tiny Strides, alias Little Lagurski), was so small that he was often mistaken for an oddly shaped fire hydrant. Because of the unfortunant attention paid to him by a number of neighborhood dogs, his dry cleaning bill was atrocious.
The sense of the remainder of this saying is still obscure. One theory proposes that it has been altered from "leg gets soaked", however, this is purely conjecture.
