what's in a name, anyway?

Page 1, the Hungers name their baby. sort of.

Candy and Cannelon Hunger never expected to have a child, so when it came time to decide on a name, they were sadly unprepared. They could have chosen a first name that matched their last, like Insatiable, or Ravenous, or even Good Ol' Fashioned, but it just never occurred to them. Or even something simple would have been good, like Bob, or Tom, or Peanut Butter. Had they kept their minds open to all of the options, they would have found many possible names for their son. They didn't have to continue the family tradition of beginning his name with "Can ..."

Not that they didn't give the decision some thought. They realized right from the start that Cantaloupe was a silly name for a little boy, and that it was only slightly better than Cancan. For a time, Cannabis was given some consideration, but Candy felt that it didn't have quite the same ring to it as Cannibal. Yes, she thought, Cannibal Hunger rolled right off the tongue. It was perfect.

Years later, Cannibal began to suspect that there just might be something standing in the way of his restaurant and catering business, although he'd be damned if he could figure out what it was.
