o I have Mean Girls, Cruel Intentions, 10 Things I Hate About You... Vicks, are you even listening?"
My cousin Vickey and I were preparing for one of our haphazard sleepover parties, which we haven't had in a while. We were currently sitting on my bed, deciding on which movie to watch first, when I noticed she wasn't paying attention.
"Jon's cheating on you with me." The words left her mouth quickly. I almost didn't catch them. Almost.
I clenched my fists. I had a feeling that this was happening. Any time that I would suggest we go on a date or have some us time, he would make up an excuse. We barely hung out as much. I knew it. But I didn't know that he would do it with my cousin.
I steadily rose from my spot on the bed. "For how long, Vickey?"
"Um...about a month. But-" I didn't want to hear her wimpy sorries.
"Don't apologize. I always knew you were jealous of me. So you plotted to steal my boyfriend and you succeeded. Good for you."
She had an astounded look on her face that I really wanted to wipe off. "I wasn't going to apologize. And you thought I was jealous of you? The truth comes out!"
I'm going to go and think poetically here... how can one not feel remorse for stealing another's boyfriend? Said one must be a bitch.
"Vickey, you're a bitch, you know that?" I said, speaking my thoughts. On the outside, I was trying to remain calm. But on the inside, I felt like slapping the blonde out of her hair, the pep from her aura. And possibly slap the blood that made us related out of her.
She stood up, grabbing her bag. "Look, I just wanted to tell you so that you didn't hear it from anybody else." Wait, what?
"So you're saying Jon wasn't going to tell me. You were going to keep going behind my back. That's awesome, Vicks. But didn't you have a boyfriend?" I remembered she came to the winter solstice dance with this really hot guy-Carson, I think was his name-and then at school holding hands. So Jon and Vickey were both cheaters. They belonged together. Ick.
"Eventually we were. When the time was right. My boyfriend is none of your business."
I scoffed. "Well, my boyfriend wasn't your business either-" I threw my arms up frustratingly, "-but look what happened."
She shook her head and the curly blonde high pony tail on her head shook also. The green eyes through her black-rimmed glasses showed intent emotion that I wasn't familiar with. Vickey was pretty. I did not think she was as pretty as I was, though.
"If you're going to be this uncooperative, I'm leaving."
I crossed my arms. "Don't let the door hit you on your tush, sweetheart. You just lost yourself your only cousin."
Vickey sighed and made her way over to my door. Just before she walked out she turned around. "I know what you're thinking, Ash.That I never cared about our friendship, mooched off of your popularity, and used you to get close to your boyfriend. But you know I'm not like that. And if you care anything about our friendship... you could get past this."
She finally left. Be gone, she-beast. I anticipated that she would fall into a pool of toxic waste and gain a lurid skin disease. That was the best that could happen to her. Hopefully.
