Concentration Lacking

Poetry By: Ava Rosien

Ever have a day like this at work?

I dilly and I dally; when supposed to be on task;

what fun is there in work; on a sunny day I ask?

Daydreams steal some time; now my work is late;

less time I should waste; now I must compensate.

Oh but look outside the window; blue bird in a tree;

singing song sweetly; I think it sings to me.

Back on track; the work won't do itself ya know.

Oh but look over there; that picture hangs too low.

My mind is in a tizzy; concentration would be a plus;

Oh look, look at all the people on that tourist bus!

I wish I had some place to go; maybe Niagara Falls.

Lordy there I go again; dreaming while duty calls!

I get up from my desk; into supervisor's office step;

"Sir, I hate to bother you; but think I may have strep."

I put my hand to my throat; coughing in his direction;

He waves his hands; "Go home; I don't want infection!"

Oh yea is me; I have the whole day off to play and frolic.

The work will wait; and tomorrow maybe I'll have colic!

Then my mind will be able to concentrate as should;

I'll return to work and tell my boss I am feeling good!
