Between sleep and lucid thought; I drift off it seems;
to strange enchanted places; only found in dreams.
Where a dragon flies ore head; above a castle’s tower;
while down below,the peasants scream and cower.
A knight emerges from the gate; mighty sword in hand;
“I will slay the beast of fire;to save the King’s fine land!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From a tower window; a maiden throws her scarf of blue;
“Kill the mighty dragonKnight; and I will marry you.”
Was the daughter of the King; a rarer beauty never found.
He grasped herscarf; before it could touch ground.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Its head is mine; I shall return to claim thee as my wife!
“For with your lucky scarf fair lady; I shall not lose my life.”
Upon his steed he rode toward the dragon’s lair with hast;
No fear he showed, instead the battle he embraced.
Three days passed without word; of him or of the dragon;
then beyond the gates there appeared a man on wagon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I implore you please let me in; I have news to tell the King!”
Tis both goodand bad; this day to His Majesty I bring’”
Droppingcanvas on the back; there lay the dragon’s head.
“I’m sad to say the man that killed it; is now dead.”
“What commenced that killed the knight, I pray thee man do tell.”
“My King, the knight stumbled on a scarf; and on his sword fell.
Before he died he bade to me; bring dragon’s head to you;
I should tell fair Princess; take her unlucky scarf of blue.”
******** What? You expected a fairy-tale ending? ***********
Ok, so the Princess got married to another handsome knight,
when he went to slay a dragon there was not a scarf in sight!
****************Happy Now? *****************
