To See or Not to See? That is the question
To see, or not to see? That is the question—
Whether ’tis nobler in the eye to suffer
The marks and blurs of outrageous myopia
Or to take glass against a sea of smudges
And, by opposing, end them? To wake, to sight—
Much more—and by sight to say we end
The headache and the thousand bumps
The flesh runs into—’tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished! To wake, to sight.
To see, perchance to look—ay, there’s the rub
For in that look of sight what looks I become
When I have shuffled on these spectacles
Must give us pause. There’s the respect
That makes calamity of so little sight
For who would bear the whips and scorns of peers,
The oppressor’s wrong, the beautifuls’ laughter
The pangs of despised dorkiness, the friends’ delay
The insolence of the class, and the spurns
the patient merit of th’ unworthy takes,
When he himself might glasses take
Off a bare headkin? Who would fardels bear,
To trip and fall under a weary eye,
But that the dread of something after I put on my glasses
The stereotyped social suicide from whose bourn
No teen returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills of the body
Than fly to others that will harm our spirits
Societal norms do make cowards of us all,
And thus, the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o’er with the pale cast of thought,
But there’s one enterprise in this moment
With this regard my currents turn awry
And I gain the name of a thought much better—Soft contacts now,
The fair Oasis brand!—the benefits of both, and the failings of neither
Be all my decision remembered!
