Out in the Crowd

By Mike Stevens

Held Under Poem #1

We took the stage to roaring applause

But it turned to s**t, like it always does

I started to sing in the wrong damn place,

which threw the rest of the band off; it was a worst-case

I was wearing weaerio--

err--wearing egg on my face, and it only got worse as I struggled along

I was completely lost on this fricking song!

That's when the booing started out in the crowd

They were reacting to our moronic sounds

Inside I could feel only panic and fear

I thought to myself, 'I've got to get out of here!'

The booing grew louder; my worst nightmare

was coming true right before my eyes. Where

at first, the crowd gave us the benefit of the doubt,

now their booing was telling us to get out

of their faces because they thought we sucked

Right then, it was a good think I ducked,

because a lighter came straight for my head

"Boo, you guys really blow chunks!" one guy said,

loudly! We took off running, to get away

from the torrent of items they tossed on stage

As I ran, I just knew it was over. My

career as a singer was over and done. "Why

oh why couldn't I started to sing in the right spot?"

And how was I going to pay for the mansion I'd bought?

Now I work graveyard in a convenience store,

and look back in panic at the time the fans shouted, "No more!"
