said Joe, to Bethlehem, let's steal
my mule, a tool, to carry
if inn is out, i will, no doubt
arrange a manger, Mary

so on the beast, in grief, his wife
no saddle for a shielding
you bet your life, she felt some strife
yet rode his ass, unyielding

just as they thunk, there was no bunk
their plans were gravely tabled
their patience thin, they left the inn
and in a manger stabled

the donkey ride disturbed the bride
she screamed "i broke my water"
the child inside came forth and cried
and Joe yelled "its a daughter ! "

now Mary'd heard the prophecies
so that was hard to grapple
she asked Joe to look harder, please
for stem upon the apple

no stem adorns, said Joe, forlorn
she's female in her glory
next year, its sworn, a son was born
but that's a different story
