Another screenplay I wrote for my Film class. This one is actually going to be turned into my final project, directed by me.

EXT. T ANNE CLEARY WALKWAY - MORNING
KRISTIN RIVERS, dressed in a way that mirrors her eccentricity (think fish nets), is walking to the beat of upbeat music. She is not wearing headphones--the music is in her head. We are hearing the music each time the camera is focused solely on her. Kristin does not seem to realize that she is acting oddly.
Students eye her warily and skirt around her, giving her a wide berth. As we get these various point of view shots from the onlookers, we no longer hear the music, and we realize that it is not actually playing.
EXT. NORTH HALL - MORNING
We are following close behind Kristin as she continues jamming to her music. The music suddenly stops as an apparently unsurpassable idea occurs to her. She slowly turns her head, facing the camera.
KRISTIN:
(excited to the point of seriousness)
We should go see the duckies.
Kristin pauses slightly, then abruptly starts walking briskly again.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
(staring straight ahead)
Don't argue. We're going.
Pause.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
(looks back, rolling eyes)
Why should I care that we went yesterday? Loosen up a little, jeez.
EXT. PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE - LATE MORNING
Kristin leans on the rail, watching a group of ducks. She seems much calmer now. She turns to the camera again.
KRISTIN:
This is nice, isn't it?

Kristin then notices a COUPLE on the bridge also looking at the ducks. She starts to look around, and sees a GROUP of laughing friends here, another COUPLE there. Kristin sighs and looks back to the water, watching a duck swimming on its own.
EXT. THEATER BUILDING - LATE MORNING
We're following Kristin again. She spots a BOY and GIRL talking casually and starts to approach them.
KRISTIN:
(to the camera)
Come on, don't be shy.
Kristin is now right in front of them.
KRISTIN:
(nervously applying chapstick)
Heyyyy, what's up?
BOY:
(surprised and confused)
Uhh, nothing really...
GIRL:
(almost rude)
Can we help you?
KRISTIN:
Yeah! Now that you mention it. You two fine strangers can be my friends.
Kristin does a little head jerk-her nervous tic-the boy and girl look at each other, eye brows raised. The boy is just a little confused; the girl seems annoyed and uninterested.
GIRL:
Actually, we, uh...
KRISTIN:
(to the camera)
See, I knew this wasn't a good idea! But you couldn't take no for an--
BOY:
Who are you talking to...?
We get a POV shot from them, of Kristin standing by herself nervously applying chapstick again.
KRISTIN:
(nervously, shifty)
I don't know what you're talking about...
Kristin hurries away and the boy looks confusedly at the girl.
BOY:
Who was that...?
GIRL:
(haughtily)
Oh, just Schizo-Kristin. Is it surprising she has no friends?
EXT. NORTH HALL - LATE MORNING
We're following Kristin as she approaches the set of stairs in front of North Hall. Three or four students are sitting on them, leaving just enough room for people to get by. She squeezes through and then notices a GIRL sitting alone on the bench ahead. Kristin excitedly sits next to her.
KRISTIN:
(nervous head twitch)
You look lonely.
GIRL:
(wary)
Do I?
KRISTIN:
Yeah and I was just thinking that-
A loud buzzing noise is heard, filling Kristin's ears and making it difficult to hear. She opens her jaw, trying to pop her ears. The girl is looking at her confusedly.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
(almost yelling now)
I WAS JUST WONDERING IF YOU WOULD WANT TO-
GIRL:
(muffled)
Are you alright?
KRISTIN:
WHAT? CAN YOU HEAR THAT? WOW, THAT'S LOUD.
We get the girl's POV of Kristin. The buzzing noise is no longer heard as Kristin has her head tipped and is hitting herself in the ear, as if trying to rid them of water.
Back in Kristin's POV, the buzzing continues. The girl gets up and leaves, and all of a sudden it stops.
KRISTIN:
Hey! It's gone now, come back!
She isn't coming back. Kristin sits by herself and applies some chapstick. The camera joins her on the bench.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
(to the camera)
Don't even say anything.
EXT. BURGE HALL - AFTERNOON
Kristin approaches a GIRL reading a book. The girl doesn't notice Kristin sit at the same table as her. Kristin reaches convulsively for her chapstick, but then forces herself not to use it. She takes a deep breath.
KRISTIN:
(although she can obviously see the cover)
What are you reading?
The girl, slightly annoyed, gestures to the cover.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
Oh yeah, that's a good one.
(to the camera)
Would you quit? I know I haven't read it!
The girl is confused. We see Kristin from her POV, talking to no one.
KRISTIN (CONT'D):
Leave me alone! Do you want this to work or not?
(turns back to girl, head twitch)
Listen, do you wanna hang out sometime?
Kristin's POV.
GIRL:
Well, I don't know, maybe-
Kristin is looking off-screen, distracted. The camera tilts up and pans right and the screen is filled with a hypnotizing, wheel of swirling colors.
From the girl's POV, we see Kristin staring up at nothing, transfixed. After a while, the girl gets up and leaves. Kristin finally snaps out of it and realizes she's alone again. She is very upset, reaches for her chapstick, but her hands are shaking so hard that she drops it. It rolls underneath the adjacent table, and Kristin follows it on her hands and knees. It comes to a stop next to a pair of eccentric-looking feet. All of a sudden another tube of chapstick falls from above, next to Kristin's. A BOY's face appears beneath the table, reaching for his chapstick. Kristin hands it to him and rises from the ground, sitting at the table with him. They both do the same nervous head twitch at the same time.
EXTREME CLOSE UP OF KRISTIN'S ECSTATIC FACE.
The end.
