Summer Homework Must Die!!

"Down with homework! Down with homework!"

Two girls incessantly chanted as they walked through the streets of Booksie and made their way towards Booksie Town Square. One girl, Chicka19, carried a pitchfork in one hand and she shook it angrily in the air as she hollered, "Down with homework!" The other girl, Alice, carried a cardboard sign on a stick and waved it madly in the air as she cried out, "Down with homework!" They marched onwards, causing a raucous, but at the moment not caring what such town officials such as Booksie Guy thought.

At first there was the fear of being stoned by books in the Town Square with their protesting, but to their surprise, people were joining in! Booksieans peeked out their windows, others opened their doors to watch the two lunatics marching and shouting, "Down with homework!" One by one they rushed to join, marching and chanting together. They threw their fists in the air and hollered loudly, "Down with homework!"

One girl by the name of DarkFairy ran to the two crazy girls excitedly, "Alice! Chicka19! What's going on?"

They both turned to her and Alice still waving her sign in the air answered, "We're both tired of summer homework! It's so boring!"

Bringing her pitchfork down to the ground, Chicka19 took over, "Yeah! And we're sick of it, so we decided to go to Town Square and burn all of it!" The rest of the group cheered behind them, supporting them wildly!

A wide grin appeared on DarkFairy's face, "Well I'm definitely in! Can I start the fire?" With two nods from the girls, DarkFairy rushed off to find some wood meanwhile more and more people joined in the chanting and they continued their walk to the Town Square.

"Down with homework! Down with homework!"

As they neared Town Square they saw DarkFairy working on starting the fire. Two boxes were waiting. Chicka19 and Alice stepped up and took their places on the boxes. They waved their arms in the air for silence. The crowd slowly dropped from cheering, to a low murmur, to crickets. All eyes turned to Chicka19 and Alice.

Chicka19 lifted the megaphone she had in her hand and put it to her lips, "Attention all Booksieans! Alice and I are starting a riot! We're sick of summer homework! Are you sick of summer homework?!" The crowd cheered but Chicka19 and Alice looked to each other and then shook their heads in disappointment. Chicka19 raised her voice, so she was even louder in the megaphone, "I can't hear you! Are you all sick and tired of summer homework?!" Everyone hooted and hollered and cheered at the top of their lungs. A pleased smile spread across Chicka19's face and she said, "Good. Then I’ll let Alice explain." She handed the megaphone to her companion.

"Listen up Booksieans! Do you see this fire here that DarkFairy is building? This is the fire that all homework will be burned in!" The crowd cheered happily and Alice waited for them to fall silent again before she continued. Once they were still again, she pressed on, "So go home, get your homework, and even your AP homework!!!" Alice grinned at this statement and then continued, "Just get all that evil boring homework and bring it back here! The burning will begin in half an hour!"

Everyone cheered and rushed back to their houses to scrounge for all their evil summer homework that was stashed away in old backpacks or hiding under their bed or in their closet. Though a few people live only a little bit away and they came up to Alice and Chicka19 already arms full with homework. These three were Punishment, Lionheart, and Tinamina.

Chicka19 and Alice laughed at the pile of stuff Punishment had in his hands. "Punishment, what's all this?" asked Chicka19.

Punishment grinned. "I'm not on summer vacation, remember? This is just all of my homework for this year." For a second Alice and Chicka19’s eyes went wide at the large amount and then they heard Punishment mutter under his breath, "Stupid environmental science labs…"

Alice laughed, "Well you can say goodbye to them now! Would you like a knife to stab them?"

Chicka19 quickly shook her head and Alice realized this wouldn't be the wisest idea so she changed her mind.

Excited as ever, Chicka19 cheered, "Yes! This is going to be awesome!" She turned for a moment to look at the grand fire that looked so lovely to any teenager sick and tired of homework. She then turned to Tinamina and Lionheart. She raised an eyebrow at Lionheart who appeared empty handed. "Lionheart are you just here for the show?"

He gave his crazy laugh, "HahahHAhahahAHAhahAHahAAhHAHAHAhaha! Of course, I couldn't miss this!"

"How about you Tinamina? Where's your evil book and questions?"

She held them out, "Right here."

Chicka19 grinned evilly, "We are so burning our homework together since we have the same stuff." They did high fives and laughed.

The cheering could be heard again and they turned to see the massive crowd coming their way. "Well they're coming back," Alice said and stood back on her box and Chicka19 went to stand on hers.

The fire was a bonfire now, thanks to DarkFairy. Chicka19 grinned and lifted the megaphone to her lips once again, "Alright everyone! The time has come!" They cheered. "Alice if you'll do the pleasure."

Alice grinned and jumped down from her box. She picked up the one thousand
forty-three paged SAT prep book from her pile of homework. She ripped out a page – the audience gasped! – and snatched up a piece of paper from AP – their eyes widened! – She walked over to the fire and stood next to it proudly – they leaned in eagerly! Alice held the paper smeared in ink and covered with her handwriting. This moment would make up for all the hand cramps she received as she spent her summer slaving away over AP and PSAT homework.

She threw it in the fire! The flames engulfed the paper and a cheer exploded from the crowd! People started throwing in papers of all sorts! Science lab reports, notebooks, essays, note cards and more! The fire would burst every now and then, but that only made the crowd cheer louder!

"Down with homework! Down with homework!"

Chicka19 wrapped an arm around Alice’s shoulders. Alice had just finished throwing in her papers. "This was an awesome idea Alice! We're so smart."

Alice laughed, "Yup, we are. But wait! What if Booksie Guy sees this?"

Chicka19 shrugged, "Oh well. I think he'll understand. Besides, it's not as if we aren't going to clean up the ashes…after we dance in them!"

Alice cheered which was joined in by Tinamina then Punishment as well as Lionheart and Chicka19.Soon DarkFairy joined in. One by one the entire crowd was cheering with their arms in the air.

Chicka19 and Alice stood on their boxes again. Chicka19 turned on the megaphone. "Now I want you to tell me how that felt."

The loudest cheer yet went through the crowd. Chicka19 and Alice had to stop themselves before they covered their ears.

Both girls laughed. “Now that’s what I’ve been waiting for!” yelled Chicka19. “Now I’d like you to listen to me before you start booing us. Alright?”

The crowd nodded and you could hear a few yes’s and sure’s. “We don’t want the Booksie Guy to get mad at us, so we’re going to have to clean this all up.” And just as Chicka19 and Alice suspected, the crowd started wining and booing them. They both put up their hands for silence.

“I thought I asked for you to listen to me first?” asked Chicka19. Below, Lionheart snickered. She spared him a glare then continued talking. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Punishment grin. She sighed. “Yes we’re going to clean up the mess, but after we’re going to do something even more fun…” she handed the megaphone to Alice.

“How do you all feel about dancing?” she asked the crowd. Many cheers were heard throughout the crowd. Alice continued. “How about dancing in the burnt remains of your evil summer homework?!”

Everyone cheered and Chicka19 cheered right along with them unable to contain herself. Alice laughed. “Well, once the fire dies down, that’s exactly what we’ll do!”

Another cheer went through the crowd even louder this time. The fire was already beginning to shrink in size though everyone knew it would take a while until it would die. The crowd kind of went their own ways while Alice, Chicka19, Lionheart, Punishment, and Tinamina stayed where they were and talked and laughed.

Soon the sun started to set and the fire died down to little flickering flames. Slowly the crowd came back to Town Square. Chicka19 and Alice took their positions on the boxes once again. Alice turned on the megaphone. “Well,” she said sadly to the crowd. “The time is almost come. The fire has died down and the sun is setting. I hope you’ve had as much fun as we’ve had.” She said slinging an arm around Chicka19’s shoulders. The crowd cheered wildly. Alice handed the megaphone to Chicka19.

Chicka19 grinned. “Well guys, just because the homework is dead-” another cheer went through the crowd. “…Doesn’t mean that our fun is over just yet. Yes Alice, the fire is dead. But does everyone know what that means?!” Another louder cheer. Chicka19 and Alice jumped down and stood with Lionheart, Punishment, and Tinamina. “It means it’s time to dance!” They all yelled.

The five Booksieans rushed forward and started scattering ashes everywhere yelling and cheering. Soon the entire crowd was joining in. From the speakers of Town Square came music that everyone was dancing too. Alice and Chicka19 grinned at each other. “We did it!” Chicka19 yelled.

They gave each other high fives and soon were dancing wildly with the rest of the crowd.

Summer homework officially died that night. Not only that, but it went down in Booksie History.
