Bahaa-eddin M. Mazid is Associate Professor of Linguistics and Translation, Dept. of English, Faculty of Arts, Sohag University, Egypt; Currently: Assistant Professor, Department of Translation Studies, UAE University. He has been teaching language, linguistics and translation courses for some sixteen years in Egypt, KSA and UAE. His research interests include pragmatics and (critical) discourse analysis, translation studies, linguistic criticism, semiotics and cartoon, media texts, and the teaching of language and translation. His recent publications include a book – Politics of Translation: Power and Ideology, Culture and X-phemism in Translation between Arabic and English, Germany, Munich: LINCOM Europa, 2007 – and an article – "Presuppositions and strategic functions in Bush’s 20/9/2001 speech: A critical discourse analysis." Journal of Language and Politics 6(3): 351-375. His publications in Arabic include Age of the Arab Novel, Sharjah, Department of Culture and Information, 2001.
