Hello Booksie, I go by the penname "Kalani Smith", which is the name of a main character in a short story I wrote in 8th grade and the name has stuck with me ever since. I'm 17 years old, from Chicago, Illinois. When I get older, I hope to move to either California, Colorado, or somewhere in between. I honestly just want to live a quiet, peaceful life. I'm a very withdrawn, socially awkward person. Online is where I come to life, talk and help people and just be myself. Anyone who knows me outside the internet knows I rarely say anything aside to the people I'm friends with. I enjoy reading, writing, chatting online, giving advice, and advocating against bullying. I usually am on here more than other accounts associated with writing so even though it may say I'm "offline", it's only because I'm not on long enough to really do anything.
I've been writing seriously since about 7th or 8th grade when my teacher really opened my eyes to the talent I had. I really enjoy writing, especially when people read it and just enjoy all I have to say through my characters. My stories generally revolve around subjects with the LGBT community, teens who are socially outcasted, or social issues in our society today that concern teenagers. In general, I write Young Adult fiction. I'm not really into the whole Sci-Fi thing, so reading and writing it is extremely hard for me (just a forwarning when sending read requests).
I'm up for accepting most any read request, but please realize that if it's not a genre I'm really interested in, I may take a while to read it as I have school, clubs, and books I'm not interested in take longer for me to read. I'm trying to also build my critique skills so I may read the entire length of what you want me to read (Chapters or the entire novel) before I comment. I may like as I go through though. When I comment and give criticism, it's just to help you. I'm not being snarky and I want the same in return. Please write comments that will help me better improve my writing if you can. Copy-Paste messages aren't appreciated in the least bit and the chances of me actually accepting that request are smaller. Just send me a message about why I should read your story and I'll be willing to see if I can add it to my list.

Works In Progress
Living in a world very few people understand, Peyton constantly feels alone, chastised and feels he cannot be who he truly is. Being one person at school and the other at home, he begs his mother to understand his struggle and help him, though she continues to push it off as a "teenage phase." When he's at his wit end, Peyton decides to consider taking matters into his own hand. He will be 18 soon and he must consider his options. Through his journey of self discovery, he sees that the road ahead of him is everything but easy and must consider whether the journey he's going to embark on is worth the ache he will endure.
Sliver of Light
This story tells of a 16 year old boy, Aiden Mitchel that is a struggling cutter. Life has thrown many obstacles his way and his only reprieve is brought by the razor he has hidden. He sees no reason to live, no reason to continue on, until he gets to know a new girl, a girl untainted by the ways of the high school. She's determined to break his exterior shell, the one that tells very little and get to the inner core. The closer she gets to the real him, the more haunted and disturbed she finds him. She doesn't give up, their love binding them. She's his only sliver of light in a world of darkness and pain. Will it be enough to bring him through, bring him from the tunnel of despair to the bright outdoors that lie ahead?
