My name's Laura, I'm 18, from Northern Ireland and I'm an A Level english student (as well as biology and geography also) who likes reading, writing and pretty much anything to do with the two. I've been writing poetry for the past year or two and sometimes just stories out of boredom. I prefer to write in longhand; with a pen and paper instead of a keyboard and some sort of screen. May seem old fashioned but I enjoy the texture of paper to write on or read from.
I like authors such as; Alyson Noel, C.S Lewis, J. R. R. Toilken, J.K Rowling, James Patterson, Mary Shelly, Charles Dickens, Charlotte Bronte and Dan Brown so it's a rather large range.
I like poets such as; William Wordsworth, Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare, Carol Ann Duffy, W.B. Yeats, Seamus Heaney and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
I love music and play guitar and a little piano. And I've written some of my own songs although my singing sounds a little like a giraffe being strangled so it's a little difficult to see how they'd fare. I actually have just started teaching beginners guitar so that'll be interesting!
Some of my favourite bands/ artists are Ben Howard, Biffy Clyro, You Me At Six, Foo Fighters, Guns N Roses, The Coronas (an Irish band who aren't that well known but really good so check them out!), Coldplay, Nickelback, 30 Seconds To Mars, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, P!nk, Jimmy Eat World, The Goo Goo Dolls and Rise Against. These ones and a load of random songs from other bands such as Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People, Welcome Home by Radical Face and some just plain instrumentals or classical piano by Debussy, Yiruma and Chopin. :)
Okay so I have a number of poems, not sure how many because they're not all up here but there are good few! They've all been writtin at different times so they differ a bit in the quality of words etc. Check them out if you want, the longest is thirteen stanzas (The Ballad) but I think it's the best one, so see for yourselves. :)
I've started writing a story also, "The Chase", out of nothing apart from boredom and procrastinating revision for exams. Let me know what you think because I've never written a story properly!
