The Wodeyars or wadiyars as they known were the kings of this sleepy old city for the last 400 years though it was the English who ruled the State and let the Maharajas set up educational institutions and made Mysore a heritage city. But who were the Wodeyars? This longish essay is a part of the book that I am writing.
