Fear filled me as I looked into her eyes, the same eyes that I had looked into time and time again. I was afraid for her. I knew it would only be a matter of time before her eyes would close and not open ever again. The beeping of the machine seemed louder than normal.
As to this day, I don't know why she was here, in her own room, far from those who could help her best. It was what she had wanted, to die in the comfort of her own home, with her family and closes friends surrounding her.
My mother was worried about her, she cried every night when she thought no one noticed. I noticed it though, even if I couldn't see her actually crying I knew she was, only because I was doing much of the same.
She and I shared a room once, before she got so sick. Before cancer had gotten it's claws into her. My beloved sister. I knew that after it happened, after she died, I would never stay in this house again. I would never enter that room in which she now slept. Our room. I already had made plans; all that was left to do was wait.
Waiting was the hardest part, besides watching her suffer. This is why I believe so strongly in the Relay for Life.
The Relay for Life helps with research for better treatments and helps with the research to stop cancer permanently.
My sister died from Leukemia in 2006 and watching her die at home was painful. I can never go home without thinking of her and remembering the day she died.
The Relay for Life is one of the best causes because some day, I know that some scientist' will find a cure for not just Leukemia, but for all cancers. Its helps me to know that someday, families won't have to watch a loved one die.
With the money raised by the Relay for Life, we can make a difference and make cancer a word to laugh off. I believe that by doing the Relay for Life, we are truly honoring all the victims' of this horrible disease and making a difference.

In loving memory of my dearest friend
