“Oh no nonononononono!” I whispered under my breath. I was trying to chase Aster Phoenix’s plane before it took off because the pilot was killed and switched out and inside is a critic that wants Aster dead. And it was two days till Anne’s birthday. Damn my jobs. Damn it all! I’m gonna miss Anne’s birthday if I don’t hurry up! So, I ran faster. “Aster! Aster wait!” I yelled over the plane as it started to take off. The hatch was still open, which was weird, but still. Running as fast as my legs could take me; I reached the end of the boardwalk at Duel Academy and jumped. Just making it, I pushed myself up into the plane and closed the door. Taking a deep breath, I looked around. S#!t. I’m in the cargo room! I growled and found my way to the exit of the cargo room and emerged into the passenger part of the plane. Aster was sitting down in a luxury couch looking out the window when I came through the door.
“Meeve, not that I’m not glad to see you, but what are you doing here?” Aster asked, looking my way. I must look like crap. I thought at his surprised expression.
“Well, where do I begin. First, I get into this realm to find out that you are here, which I don’t know why anymore. Then, seeing as though my fastest transportation at the time was a plane leaving tomorrow, I hitch-hiked on a boat coming here and when I finally do get here, I look for you at your suite, but you weren’t in there. So, I ask a few students who tell me you were just about to leave on an airplane with a pilot who wants to kill you.” I growled. I wasn’t in the mood. Archie just asked me to do this mission on the week I was scheduled off and I really had no choice. The mission was to find Aster, kill the bad guys, see to it that he arrives safely in his mansion and patrol his home that night in case the pilot has friends.
I hate my job.
Aster blinked, more shocked at my story than how I looked.
“So, you went through all of that trouble to find me and tell me that the pilot is going to try and kill me.”
“Yes, and I have to protect you for a limited amount of time.”
“You still have your crush on me.”
“Aster, if I would’ve had a choice, I would’ve stayed home and let someone else do this job. I’m not in the mood right now and you’re not helping, and for your information, I’m dating someone in another anime, thank you very much.”
Just my luck, the pilot came out and as soon as he saw me glaring at him (because I can see the gun under his jacket, hurray for cat eyesight and vamp senses!) he frowned.
“I’m sorry, Miss, were you on the list?”
“There was no list idiot. Put the gun down and step off of the plane. Who’s piloting anyway?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. And it’s on auto-pilot.” I hated the I-don’t-know-what-you’re-talking-about types. From my sleeve, I threw 2 needles (like in the anime “Naruto”) at the pilot, sticking him to the wall, his hands were away from his jacket and I walked over to him, my tail twitching. I picked up from his shirt, a Vektor SP1 pistol ( ok, for the record, I don’t know the difference from a pistol and a hand gun, I really personally don’t care for guns because I don’t trust them. I just looked some sort of gun off of Google and used that). Aster’s eyes went wide.
“You disgust me.” I hissed, throwing the pilot out of the plane (keep in mind, the plane is about 100 meters above the water and the water is shark infested). I threw the pistol as well out of the plane and closed the door. “I sure as hell hope that you know how to pilot this thing. I don’t know where he was going to go.” Aster nodded and sat up and walked out into the cockpit. I followed him and supervised the rest of the trip.
~Back at the lab~
“WHERE’S CHEEZE!?!” She yelled at Archie.
“Anne, relax. Meeve is the best we have, she’ll be at your party. I’m sure.”
“This was her week off! What the hell? We were going to play!”
“I know, but-”
“But nothing! You have Aster Remoraz, you have Riley for protecting that cocky son-of-a-b***h. You have many other people working for you too! And out of all of them, you just HAD to pick CHEEZE!”
“I know you’re upset.”
“REALLY!?! IS IT THAT OBVIOUS!?!”
“But Meeve will get the job done right. She WILL be at your party and that’s a promise I can guarantee.” Anne was about to punch Archie when a message came over the receiver.
“Archie, you there?”
“Yes, Meeve, What’s your situation?”
“Bad guy is swimming with the fishies and Aster and I will be arriving at the main land momentarily”
“Ok, good.” Archie breathed.
“You’ll be coming home then, right?” Anne asked.
“No, I have to stay and protect Aster for the night. I’ll be home after that. Relax.”
“Cheeze!”
“I know!”
“But-”
“Anne, let it go. You should know by now, I’m winning.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Because I’m already over here.”
“Alright.” Anne’s five tails hit the floor making a light tremor as they did and her ears were flat.
“I’m sorry, Anne. It’s just how it has to be.” Meeve’s voice sounded over the receiver. “Archie, I’ll let you know when we reach the mansion.”
“Alright, Meeve.” Archie said and clicked off of the intercom, throwing the room in complete silence.
“Sir! Something is coming up on the grids of the realm ‘ Code Geass’.” An intern told Archie, walking into the boss’s office, the automatic door opening to his approach.
“I’m coming. Anne, Please go home.” She nodded, dragging her tails behind her. (wow, that must’ve been heavy, especially the earth one.)
~Back in the plane~
I sighed as the intercom canceled out.
“Something wrong?”
“There’s always something wrong, what are you talking about?” Aster shrugged.
“Tell me about your new boyfriend.”
“He’s better than you, that’s for sure.” I smirked. He scowled. “It’s Neji. The one I had before I met you.”
“Well, if you’re back with him, he’d better treat you good.”
“You’re about the sixth person to tell me that. Spaz already tested him and he passed.” Aster smiled remembering the test that Anne had given him. She had about three sodas and a full eight hours of sleep when she tested his tolerance. He wanted to leave but eventually decided to just get used to it. Aster and I are friends and Anne says she didn’t challenge him enough.
“What was Neji’s test?”
“Six sodas, ten hours of sleep all at a sleepover with Riley, Anne, me, and him.” Aster laughed.
“Poor Neji.”
“He did better than you did.” Aster frowned at this. “Enough about me, what about you, do you have anyone special now?”
“I met this really random cute girl named Christina, but she was dating Jessie. She’s… possessive…” He blushed and I laughed.
“Well that’s good. Jessie’s a great guy, it’s good to hear he’s got a good girl.” I looked out at the vast ocean.
“And, what, are you happy I don’t have a girlfriend?”
“No, I’m happy that you aren’t dating a fan girl. You know as well as I do how badly things get when you do that.” He nodded.
“We’re landing in about 20 minutes.” I groaned. “What?”
“I thought you said we were landing SOON!”
“I did. 20 minutes isn’t soon?”
“No.” He sighed.
“Meeve, what’s really the problem?”
“You don’t remember, do you? It’s two days from Spaz’s birthday. I was supposed to spend the whole week with her I only spent 3 and a half days with her.”
“You can stand her for that long?” I glared at him. “Sorry.”
“You should be. Spaz is my sister.”
“No she’s not.” I punched him.
“You know what I mean by that. She’s the only family I have.” He rubbed his arm and nodded to the horizon. I looked and sighed out of relief. The landing docks.
~back at home~
“No, Goel. That’s not supposed to be there. Katrina, we need these things for the party. Aster, help your brother. Anne! Baby, where’s Cheeze, I’m dying here. You know I can’t organize a party, especially one this big.”
“Cheeze is on a mission. She should be here by tomorrow morning.” Anne whined. “Baby, get some rest. It’s daylight and you shouldn’t be out here anyway.” Anne told her bf. Chapter whined in the shade of a tree, Riku was sunbathing halfway up the same tree, and Bruce was inside.
“Alright. When’s Neji going to get here?”
“He’s on a mission too. He’ll be here in time for the party.” Riley nodded and went inside to the bed he shared with Anne. “Aster, you handle decorations, Goel, you… hey, where’s Katrina?”
“She went to the mall to get ingredients for some things and some different foods. Meeve did give Katrina her credit card before she left to buy the stuff that we need. Meeve might not be rolling in money, but she doesn’t really use it.” Aster replied. Anne nodded.
“Alrighty then. Goel. Uhhh, help make things pretty with your brother until I find a better job for you.” Anne walked inside to think about what games and what-not was going to go on. Cheeze normally takes care of this stuff. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I don’t want to do this. She sighed. “Meeve, I hope you come back soon.” She closed her eyes and went to work.
~At the mansion~
“ I personally don’t care how much you hate me right now, Aster! I have to stay here and protect you until tomorrow! Deal with it baka!” I yelled at Aster, my paws were clenched, my ears were back in a challenge, my tail was whipping behind me and my eyes were golden with black slits. Aster’s been nothing but a pain from landing to now. I’ve kept my cool, but he was pushing the wrong buttons too hard. I had no choice but to snap at him and remind him that this is about the fourth time that someone plotted against his life and Archie was taking precautions.
“Fine, then leave me alone and I’ll leave you alone. Settled. Done.” He walked away.
“What, is he on PMS or something?” I whispered as I walked through the halls. I’ll have to walk through them over and over again until morning, as well as the outside. What fun. Sarcasm won’t help, I know, but it was the only thing I had left.
~At the house, next morning~
“Anne, baby, wake up.” She heard. Anne opened her eyes slowly.
“What?”
“Cheeze isn’t back yet.”
“WHAT?” She sat up.
“Cheeze isn’t back yet.”
“Archie you jack@$$!” She screeched, wincing a few seconds later.
~Midnight at the mansion~
I was in the garden when I heard something from behind bushes. Using my cat vision/vampire senses, I knew that there was someone there.
Before I could move, everything went black
~In the lab~
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON’T KNOW! You’ve got a tracker on her, don’t you?”
“Yes, but it’s not that simple.”
“It’s not that simple? Not that f*n simple? Just find the bright red dot moving on the screen and follow it! I can even do it!”
“Babe, someone is blocking the transmission.”
“F***!” She growled.
~unknown~
I woke up being surrounded by wires… lots and lots of wires. I looked up and saw a bomb set to go off in a minute. A good thing about my training is that I know how to deal with bombs. I held calm and got up, it was weird because I wasn’t tied or anything. The room was about 6 feet tall, 7 feet long and wide, and the bomb at dead center. I reached up to it and ripped off the covering. A red and blue strand became visible. Blue isn’t for you, red doesn’t get you dead. You thought (not sure if this is real, I just made something up) I tore through the red wire and the bomb deactivated. Then, I used sensing to see where I was. Underground? Under Aster’s house? How long have I been down here? I sighed. Digging was the best way, but I had magic, why not use it? I moved the other wires out of the way and I moved through the ground, not interrupting a single molecule of dirt until I got above ground.
“Meeve! Where were you! I haven’t been in touch with you since 5:30 in the morning! We’ve been going crazy! We caught the guy that took you but he never told us where you were.” I looked up. It’s been about 12 hours since I’ve been “kidnapped”.
“Underground surrounded by wires.”
“That’s most likely why we haven’t heard from you. Come back home, you’ve had enough excitement for one mission.” Archie canceled the transmission. I sighed. Spaz is most likely ripping her hair out by now. I shrugged at myself and traveled home.
~Home!~
I sighed as I collapsed on the couch. This was after I took a shower and changed, but still. I saw the plans for Anne’s party and looked at them. Yep, Spaz tried it. I smiled seeing only one item written before random drawings took advantage of her attention span. I grinned but went outside to where Aster, Goel, Riley, and Anne were (I traveled straight to my room, no one knew I was home). The dogs were outside and When they saw movement on the other side of the door (they were busy playing with the guys, now they were under a tree) they barked. As soon as I got the door open, I was tackled.
“CHEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZEEEEEEE! Make the plans! HELP US PREPARE! We have little time. OMGEE WHAT DID YOU GET ME? When is Neji coming? DO YOU KNOW?”
“In order, ok, ok, I know, not telling, no, I don’t know when Neji’s coming.” I smiled as I saw her five tails shake so fast she could’ve flown.
“YEY! CHEEZE IS BACK!” Anne smiled.
“That’s great, can you get off so I can help?” I asked her. She did.
I re-organized everything (with Riley and Anne watching) while planning what to do. When the guys seemed to get everything under control, I went over next door to Katrina’s (who is living with Goel) to help her make the food and make dinner.
“Dinner’s ready guys, come on!” I yelled from the porch of the house. I purposefully left open the door so Anne could smell the bbq ribs.
At dinner, we all had a blast. We heard knocking at the front door in the middle of dinner and I answered it.
“Am I late?” Neji asked, a grin on his face.
“Yes.” I smiled back.
“Oh, ok.” He walked in the door and kissed me lightly. “I missed you.”
“Me too.” I smiled wider. Closing the door, I followed Neji to the dining room.
“Well, It’s about time you got here.” Riley smirked.
“Screw!” Anne laughed holding a soda. Neji smiled.
“Nice to see you too, Spaz.”
“See! He responds!” Neji put his arms around me and kissed my cheek.
“Should we do something new?” He whispered. I blushed.
“Neji! No, not now, Let’s eat.” Neji laughed.
Things went well after that and I completely forgot the troubles at the mission. We decided the party should be at night, for the sake of Riley and it would be much more fun that way. Dawn was approaching fast so Neji, Spaz, Riley, Chapter, Bruce, Riku, and me went back to our home. Neji slept with me, which was cool, but I was in a deep sleep before my head hit the pillow.
That night was just as good. It was full of night tag; a howling contest; which Anne won, being the only natural werewolf; Swimming at the pond that was lighted by solar lights, singing (half of us can’t sing, it was hilarious), dancing, truth or dare, and much more. Spaz received three chapter books, a few dog toys, a brand new collar, and from me, I gave her a small clay sculpture of her in her wolf form next to a smaller black wolf and me, there was a base and it says “Bestest Buddies, Now and always. ~March 21st~”
~~Happy Birthday Spaz! I wish I could’ve made something like that for you! I’ll find something to get you and you know that!
