I sit upon my throne of lies, deceit, and blood. Looking out over the shadow of my castle, and out upon the kingdom in which I rule. The people go out with their daily routines, the most irrelevant things being the most important to them. You and your wife had a baby. Congratulations, another mouth to feed. Your eldest son got into college. Congratulations, he is in debt for the next twenty years. Your grandmother has died. Congratulations, another body to bury. I sit upon my throne, and look at these ants go on with their lives, never looking at the grand scheme of things. Some call me a saviour, bringing them a very slight tax reduction, and keeping their homeland safe from terrorism. Others call me a heretic because I support causes that their church doesn't support. Abortions? Gay marriage? They ridicule me for things I can't really control. Rape, murder, theft, robbery, incest, and vandalism run through the streets while I sit upon my throne. I sit up here, drink the finest wine, dine the finest steak with the movies stars, and enjoy all the unnecessary luxuries a king could think of. Afterall, that's what I am, right? A king? I make unimaginable sacrifices too, you know. I send young men and women off to their deaths to make sure that I...we... can live another day in our peaceful little lives. I get to chose who suffers and who prospers in my kingdom. Maybe I used to stand for something, but I forgot what that could be. You know, there is a lot of me inside you. But what is it? Are you afraid to see? You just want my power, is all. Do you really care about these little issues? No? That's what I thought. I really don't care what happens to the rest of the world. Does it really matter to us? What is the big deal? Of course, you would never look through the eyes of your king would you? No. You need to realise that I traded in my god for another one. This god signs his name with a capital G.
