Despite the rule of banning dogs on the beach from May to September there are places that can be found. Swansea has a designated area for dogs to walk and play during those summer months.
My dog Spotty, Paul and I went down for our 'sea' walk after a stressful afternoon trying to construct that darn shed!
Spotty simply loves the beach and jumps out of the car excitedly and pulls me on the lead, eager to get to her play space. Freedom and exercise size on this walk are beneficial.
The tide was in. Paul and I walked while Spotty ran along the edge of the sea, sniffing, warily paddling. As she became braver we noticed Spotty acted as though she was rounding up sheep; running, eyes watching, (were they sheep?) As the waves broke she abruptly stopped taking the characteristic sheep dog position.
I threw a stick into the sea. To retrieve meant going out of her depth, but not far. The waves covered her body and the natural instinct to swim back to shore took over. Out of the water on to stand on the sand, shaking the excess water off but in doing so sand blew up to cling to her lower body and tail. What a mess she was in!!
Our route back to the car was along the old railway line, designated as a path for walkers and cyclists. Sat on a seat to observe the world go by and allow Spotty to dry off a little.
