for the first time

my heart races

perfume is in the vapid air

cool winds blow out of
shimmering heat

soft sand swirls around my feet

a hint of wine--of a feast--on the breeze
a hint of sunshine and green-growing rain
a hint of more than desert and pain
a hint of life as the dead live again

call me crazy
call me drunk
call me sunstrok'd
call me what you want

if this is madness then
I take insanity

if this is inebriation then
let me drink everything

if this is a heat-dream then
may it never cease

if this is madness then
I cast my lot with the dream
