I stayed away from there for so long-
But then
I
Went
Back.

I kept the creatures at bay-
But I went back to the well they dug
For me,
To drink deep of
That fetid water which
I no longer need,
Being no longer
Dead.

I held the cravings at arms' length-
But a
Distant call sounded
Across the desert sands and
Though it
Was
Faint, I kissed my Prince,
Left
The tent, followed
The sound to a festered
Pool of water that I knew
Would
Make me sick
(Only a fool might
Drink from such a
Thing, but what then
Am I)
And
I drank deep
Of the
Festered, toxic
Water.

I know my Prince is
Weeping.

I managed to stay away for a very long time-
But now that my belly is
Full
Again, I find the water isn't
Half so good as I once
Remembered.
