Requiem to an Angel
By Christopher Owens

An angel is a special creature
Something we may not always see.
To our frail human eyes
They may look the same as you and me.
Angels are blessed by a higher power
Miracle workers for the good.
They are there for the troubled
They rescue the misunderstood.
Their kindness is a guiding light
A beacon of hope and wonder.
The happiness they share
Is unlike any other.
Though we may not see their wings,
They fly in their own special way.
The warmth and caring that they bring with them
Shines within them every day.
The darkness some people live in
Will be vanquished by the light.
There is always a guardian angel
Protecting us from the night.
Our guardian angel is our defender,
Our barrier from fright.
When we are overcome with terror
They surround us with the light.
When we are filled with sorrow
The angels hold us good and tight.
The guardians shield us from the dark
Without a struggle or fight.
We can sleep peacefully
Knowing that we are watched from above.
Our eyes can close safely
With the grace of a dove.
In the clouds up high
There is a greater angel that watches over us.
The archangels, the greatest of the winged ones
Settle all the fuss.
The archangels watch us with hope and praise
Nothing but strong love in their hearts.
Though they are the greatest
They are not selfish at all.
They show equal love for everyone
For those who rise, and those who fall.
We could learn a lot from their example.
We can embrace their morality.
It is the feeling of kindness that keeps us going
And allows us to embrace our humanity.
Though we are but flesh and blood
Our spiritual bonds are more of a reality.
Angels are the spiritual versions of us.
We share the same qualities in each other’s eyes.
We live, we breathe, and we love,
We sing, we dance and we cry.
We laugh, we play and we feel.
We pray, we sleep and we die.
But we should not weep for those passed.
They have gone to join the angels above.
What was once a spiritual vision
Has flown off on the wings of doves.
We may not see them every day
But we are certainly watched with loving gaze.
We can still see them closely
When we are in a prayerful daze.
Angels do exist with us.
They fill our hearts with love and praise.
