When Did the Ayatollah Choose?
© 2011 Patricia McGurk Martin Hearst Himmler
This was a fictionalized version of a private conversation I had with the Iyatollah Khomeini, and I only remember his words with respect for him. I was/am a friend of the leader with whom I spoke as a child, and perhaps later.
He could have said the following:
When did the Ayatollah get to choose anything? Not ever. I'll tell you. The Ayat/Iyatollah didn't get to choose anything. Not ever.
The women didn't need obeisance for me. NOT ME, the Iyatollah Khomeini. I didn't want them stopping to look at my picture on sidi city streets, honoring me through backlash.
Take away the whip in my hand. I cannot bear what I did to you, young lass. I did it, if you say he did it, I did it. I'm sorry.
The Ayatollah is sorry to you, my/his only Friend,
I did not plan to hurt you. The Iyatollah is ruthless, but he / I did not cause the problems you face.
The Arab Lebanese Hebrew sometimes Jew Khomeini Iyatollah is sorry to you, my/his only Friend.
Perhaps I don't remember all his races exactly the way the Arab peoples would wish, but I try to with these words. He apologized for a vicious assault with a whip that he didn't do to me . apologizing in all his races and roles as a holy leader of Islam. I accepted his apology as a child and woman, in the present I still accept.
