Years ago, I worked as a prep person at a major fast food restaurant in Winona, Mississippi. My supervisor, Brenda, was both intelligent and strikingly beautiful. A light-skinned African-American woman, I recognized her during my first few days on the job because of her long braids, which she wore almost to the middle of her back.
"That is just gorgeous!" I observed to myself.
I have to admit that I am a very big fan of long hair on a woman, so I was impressed with the length and thickness of her hair.
I was a bit disappointed, then, when several days later I came to work and discovered Brenda wearing her hair in a very short ponytail. The ponytail itself had very little hair in it, and I wondered what had made Brenda cut her beautiful hair.
A week later, I was further confused when I reported for work and Brenda was wearing her hair in a medium-length curly ponytail! It was a gorgeous hairstyle on her, but I was extremely confused about how her short hair could have grown enough in a week to afford Brenda such a curly, luxurious ponytail!
As a Caucasian, the whole situation was a great mystery to me, until I overheard two girls talking in the breakroom about "weaves" and "hair extensions". So THAT'S how Brenda had accomplished her beautiful hairstyles! I guess a person can learn something new every day!
