Prologue

By Marinus Bokslag

He couldn’t see, it was like he was blinded. Only he wasn’t blind. Only a few seconds ago did he remember a white flash of light that appeared before his eyes before he fell face first on the concrete. He was just walking home from work and was walking along a empty dark street as he usually did when he got of work at 2 in the morning. But even the memory of that white flash seemed to be disappearing.

The man was faintly familiar of a strange sensation that felt like something was dragging him against the cold concrete floor, no words were said all he could hear was his own strange breathing, yet he couldn’t control his body, he couldn’t even open his fingers. This was especially annoying since a hot trickle of blood was flowing down his arm as the person continued to drag him by his armpits across the street.

The person dragging him didn’t seem very strong but still. Slowly the pain passed only to be onset by a new pain a short while later. A pain like something searing hot was going straight into his chest. It felt extremely hot at that point however as the pain in his chest went away he also noticed that a new coldness was beginning to encroach him. A coldness that was ever so slowly spreading to every part of his body. He struggled to move but was still unable to. His thoughts became foggy as the coldness reached his brain and he knew he would die there, finally he opened his eyes, he saw next to him a hundred tables like the bloody table he was laying on. Taking up every single table was a person, there faces white and their mouths open. Their eyes were extremely bloodshot and strangely open as if something was holding them open, only then did he notice how tightly their skin was pulled over their bodies, as if it was shrinking. He could hear nothing except his breathing.

Finally he heard a soft wheezing from above him, slowly he turned his head and was face to face with a contraption made entirely of metal hanging over him, countless needles of every length and size hanging from strange metallic arms. He was extremely frightened as the coldness continued to spread, at this point his body seemed freezing cold and he felt extremely sleepy. As he looked at the machine he heard a voice echo throughout the white enormous room saying, “Subject- 2891 is a failure, no visible changes from any other subjects, terminating.”

There was one last point of heat, his mind faded into oblivion as the cold finally enveloped his head. His mind never to return to this or any world.
