"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special guest with us tonight." The woman, Danielle McCray, began to hype the live studio audience. "He's a teen heart throb, his debut album has sold millions worldwide, and he can easily be called one of the hottest teen stars of today."
Nervous, Skylar's heart jumped into his throat as he glanced over to his manager, Natara Wilson, who reassured him, "everything will be fine. Just be yourself. You'll do great."
Danielle's voice once again became Skylar's focus, waiting for his cue. "Please welcome, Skylar Alecks!" The cue light turned green and as if the light were magic, all nervousness fled Skylar's body. The crowd went crazy with teen girls chanting his name and screaming and cheering and applauding. Skylar wiped his medium length, platinum blonde hair from his face and stepped through the curtain onto the stage, causing the gigantic crowd to lift to their feet and scream even louder.
Skylar waved to his fans, gave Danielle one of those fake 'TV Talk Show' hugs, and took his seat right beside her. "Welcome to the show!" Danielle exclaimed excitedly. "How are you?"
"I'm doing great! I'm excited to be here." Skylar claimed, and obviously he was.
The interview proceeded, Danielle asking about the album, the new-found fame, and future concerts. Typical talks show questions. Skylar, tired of California and ready to get back to his home in Beswald Springs, answered the questions mindlessly. After all, they were all the same old questions, just on different show being asked by a different person. But Skylar knew Ms. McCray. He knew this interview wouldn't be like other interviews. He knew that the infamous Danielle McCray would ask the hard-hitting questions, not caring what nerve she struck, as long as she got a good story.
Just as these thoughts ran through his head, Danielle turned and looked at the camera. "When we return, I ask the question that is on everyone's mind. We find out about the recent events going on in Skylar's life and how he truly feels. Stay tuned, this is L.A On Location." The theme music played and Skylar smiled up until the director yelled "we're clear."
Skylar rose and went towards Natara, panicking. "What do I do? I know she's going to ask about him. I'm not ready to talk about it."
Natara, very much aware of how show-biz works told him what he needed to hear. Unfortunately, it wasn't what he wanted to hear. "You're either ready or you're out, Skylar." Carmen Alecks, Skylar's mother, walked in behind Natara, but Natara didn't notice. "Do you want to be out, Skylar?"
Skylar sunk his head down and shook it, no. "Then you're ready to talk." Natara continued.
"If he isn't ready, he isn't ready, Natara!" Carmen blurted out trying to protect her son from the consequences of the harsh Hollywood scene. The two women stared daggers at each other, a deep rivalry between the two from years before Sky was born re-ignited many years later. Carmen looked back at Skylar, "If you don't want to talk about it-"
"Places, everyone!" the director yelled. Skylar looked into his mother's eyes and reluctantly informed her of what she already knew. "It's too late now" he stated as he walked to his seat on stage and sealed on a plastic smile for the camera.
Natara, still staring at Carmen, began to smile. "If I were you," she began as Carmen turned back to face her, "I'd back off. Don't forget, I have connections. Your son's career is in my hands. The first time you piss me off, it's over. Got it?"
"I have connections, too." Carmen replied. "Connections you couldn't imagine. You screw my family, and my family screws you." She smiled, winning this verbal war. "Got it?"
Back on stage, Skylar's heart jumped right back into his throat and expanded. The director counted down. "In 5…4...3..." Then he held up two fingers, then one finger and pointed to Danielle.
"We're back on L.A On Location and we are here with Skylar Alecks." She paused to let the crowd cheer, and then continued. "Now, if you've followed the news you'd know about the personal tragedy that devastated this teen star and his family only six months ago: the murder of Skylar's father, Shawn Alecks."
Skylar's plastic smile cracked in half and he fought back tears. Danielle continued.
"Fingerprints were found inside the car in which Mr. Alecks was murdered in. Who the fingerprints belong to has not, however, been released to the public." She turned towards Sky. "How do you feel? Is there anything you would like to say to the person who so coldly did such a thing to your family?"
Still unready to talk, Skylar looked towards his mother in the audience, then back to Danielle. "No."
"Nothing?!" Danielle asked in shock. "You must be angry, upset. Something."
Sounding like a recording played back, Skylar again. "No."
Danielle, insistent, went on. "This person destroyed your home. Destroyed your family. He put eight bullets through your father's temple and you have nothing to say?"
"This interview's over!" Carmen rose from her seat in the studio audience as the crowd cheered, possibly recognizing that this time, like many others, Danielle had gone too far.
"I just find it hard to believe!" McCray continued.
"What you 'find' is irrelevant! I said this interview is over!" Carmen grabbed her child's shoulder and walked off stage, every moment of chaos being captured in ten different camera angles. There was a reason Carmen and Shawn were attracted to one another, they were one in the same. A fiery attitude that could be easily backed up.
"You ok?" She asks her son and camera men and reporters follow them out the studio and into the parking lot. They get into the back of the limousine as Skylar rests his head on his mom's shoulder. "I'm fine."
