Andrew's lifeless body lay on the floor in front of me and my only instinct was to sit there. I knew that I couldn't bring him back, but I still couldn't make my feet move even an inch from where they were. So I sat, right beside him, and waited. It must have been hours, but I wasn't paying attention. It was as if time seized to exist. Hours seemed like mere minutes and minutes more like seconds. Finally, my head started clearing and I came out of the shock that had taken over my body. I stood and tried to compose myself, only to find that I was covered in his blood. This isn't going to look good when the police show up. Oh yeah, I have to call the police. The thought just hit me. It was like I knew in the back of my mind that I needed to call them, I just couldn't seem to make myself leave. So hesitantly, I turned around and left my best friend of 18 years behind me.
As I headed out of the rusted building, all of the events of the previous night rushed through me. It was the longest and most horrifying night of my life. I will never forget it for as long as I live. All of the fright, terror, and pure horror that occurred will stick with me for the rest of my life. Maybe one day I will be able to put this all behind me, but as for right now, that is not an option.
I exited the building and walked down the foilage-covered driveway that probably hadn't been used in ten years or more. I walked through the neighborhood and tried to find a phone that I could use, but it was run-down and there weren't many people living here anymore. So after walking for a few miles, I came upon a gas station. It looked like it had just escaped from some old movie. The whole place had a retro vibe about it. The gas pumps that were once a bright red, were a rusted orange now. The place was still open, however. I headed for the door and stepped meakly inside. The man behind the counter took one look at me and rushed to me thinking that I was hurt. I explained to him what was going on and asked to use his phone. He took me to the back to use the phone and dug around the place until he found some clothes for me to borrow. After phoning the police and changing clothes, I walk to the front of the gas station and just stand there, waiting on the police to pick me up.
It must have been thirty minutes before they arrived. I heard the sirens before I saw the blue and red flashing lights approach. They came in and found me and asked me to come with them. When we are outside, one of them swiftly grabs me from behind and puts handcuffs around my wrists. Now I am more than confused. I am placed in the back of the police car and taken to the scene of the crime. They had already taped off the area and there was a sworm of police and other important looking people running around, collecting evidence from the look of it. After we parked, I was pulled out of the back seat and lead inside. Andrew's body was gone, but the gallons of blood that had spilled from him last night was still there, although it had some footprints through it now.
The policeman who looked to be in charge walked over to me once he saw me enter. He asked if I was the Brandon who had called in the crime and I replied yes. He says that my DNA is everywhere and he picks up my foot to look at the bottom of my shoe. He takes it off and dips it in some ink and makes a print on some paper. He then holds it up to the prints in the blood. Oh, even I could tell that the prints were mine. I must have made them when I was leaving earlier. It took a few minutes to register, but I eventually figured out that they thought I was the one who had murdered Andrew. Or at least I was one of the suspects. But what motive would I have to kill my best friend? If only they knew the real story.
It was a story that I may never be able to speak of. I will go to prison before I tell it to a soul. I can't let the reason this happened to Andrew let out. I cannot shame the name of my friend. I am pulled out of my thoughts by the officer, who then takes me back out to his car and to the station. It is going to be a long night of questions and booking from the looks of it.
