as I wander off the trail

no matter where I go

it all leads the same

no place

crackle some more, swish

I stone-frighten the birds and squirrels

or whatever I disturb

a rat race

turtle-hare race

or am I simply asleep at the wheel

you can never tell

an eyelidcan only repell the other for so long

eventually we have to give in to our demons

and say 'alright, let's have it'

then stomp off, like a bull in the maternity ward

or is it something to do with a china shop
