"I'll be there in 20, babe. Be ready all right?" Derek said.
"I can hardly wait," I squealed, hanging up the phone. After I made another call, I was ready.
Going to the front door, I sat and waited. My legs were bouncing from the anticipation. With my wrap-around skirt and my blue bikini, I knew I wouldn't have a problem keeping Derek's attention.
A few minutes later he pulled into the driveway and I climbed into his Hatchback. Soon we were on our way to the beach. It was a beautiful day for it; clear skies, not too hot, not too cold. Best of all… I had a feeling it would be a day I would never forget.
"Whatcha thinkin', babe?" Derek asked, giving my thigh a squeeze.
"Just how beautiful today is going to be," I said, smiling at him. "I'm so glad the weather held out today. Don't forget your promise though."
"I know, I know," he said, his eyes twinkling. "You get to bury me in the sand this afternoon… and tonight…"
"That's right," I laughed.
"I think you're right," he said, squeezing my leg again.
"About?" I said, pretending that I had no idea what he was talking about.
"It is going to be a beautiful day," he said, pulling into a parking space.
We made our way to the beach and found the perfect spot along the coast. While I was setting up the towel and umbrella, I sent him for drinks. It was going to be exhausting work and I didn't want to get dehydrated.
I watched him walk across the sand, checking out the other girls. I shook my head. Although I couldn't blame other girls for looking, I could blame him for returning it.
Sighing I waited for him to get back.
"Nice view?" I asked, unable to keep the sarcasm from slipping into my voice.
"Hmmm?" he mumbled, looking at a shapely brunette across the way.
"Derek!" I snapped.
"Sorry babe, what's wrong?" he asked, oblivious to the fact he just upset me.
"I want to bury you now," I said pointedly.
"Umm…" he stammered.
"In the sand, you goof. Like you promised?" I reminded him.
"Oh yeah, that's right. Like I promised," he said, stretching out.
The next few hours I spent covering him. It got so heavy he started complaining that it was difficult to breathe.
"Hi Wendy," I heard from behind me. Turning I saw it was my best friend Linda.
"Hey! Come on over! Let me bury you in the sand too," I laughed, waving her over.
Laughing, she ran over to where we were and stopped short when she saw Derek buried in the sand.
"Oh come on! Lie down, let me bury you too," I said, still smiling.
"I don't know," she hesitated.
"It's not that bad," Derek said. "Once the sand settles it's kind of relaxing."
"Well…" she started.
"It's settled then," I said, motioning her to stretch out.
It wasn't long before she was buried in the sand too. Since she had a smaller frame than Derek, it went a lot faster.
"Comfy?" I asked the pair.
"Actually, yes," Linda said. "Although, I could use a drink."
I passed her a soda with a straw and held it while she took a sip.
"Anyone have any crabs attacking them?" I asked pointedly, standing up.
"Not they're leaving me alone. At least for the moment," Linda said.
"Good. You know, it's rather fortunate that you showed up Linda. Saves me going to find you later on," I said, walking around to their feet. I noticed my comment went right over Linda's head.
"It was?" Linda said. "I don't understand."
"Well you see…" I said, pausing for effect. "I know all about the two of you."
Linda's eyes widened, in both guilt and surprise. Derek looked as if someone had sucker punched him.
"W-what?" Linda stammered.
"How?" Derek asked.
I could see them squirming, trying to escape their sand tombs.
"The other night when we were in the back seat of your Hatchback Derek, you forgot one thing from whenever you were with 'her.' I found it while you were fumbling with your pants," I said, glaring at the two of them. As angry as I was the other night, right then I was perfectly calm.
I watched with amusement while they looked at each other and then back at me. I felt the water lap against my ankles. 'Ah, sweet, the tide was coming in,' I thought. I buried them close enough to the water that when the tide came in they would drown, but far enough away that they wouldn't think anything of it.
"Consider this our break-up Derek. I never want to hear from either of you again. I'm done," I said, tossing Linda's panties onto where she was buried.
"You can't!" Linda cried.
"Oh, I can and I will. You can scream all you want to. We're all alone here." I waved at the empty side of the beach.
I started to walk away, looking back and enjoying watching them squirm. I wasn't sure if I could honestly let them drown though. My conscience was getting the better of me. I went to go back, guilt over-taking me. I still had quite a distance to go when it happened…
I froze, and then frantically began waving my arms. The guy waved back and continued on toward me. I began screaming, but he acted as if he couldn't hear me. My legs began to run. I moved faster than I ever thought I possibly could. I was too late.
The hoof came down, connecting with Derek's cheek. Blood splattered everywhere as his skin caught on the shoe. His nose was ripped clean off his face, landing inches in front of me. Then another hoof caught Linda's throat. I heard the crunching sound that the bones in her neck made. I cringed, and backed away slightly.
I watched in horror as the man on the horse continued riding away. I ran screaming for help but wasn't honestly sure if anyone would believe me.
