According to recent research, alternative medicine techniques have been a matter of considerable public concern and debate, specially when conventional medicine offers no hope to certain illnesses. In spite of this, it presents some drawbacks.

There are two main areas in which conventional medicine is consistent. It is important to point out that its efficiency is scientifically based and it has a proven effectiveness. Nowadays, it is practised by the vast majority of the people in the world due to the points raised above.

On the other hand, it goes without saying that conventional medicine is expensive and it is said to treat the disease, not the patient. Tha natural doctor or neuropath will usually try to regulate the deeper aspects of life in their patients (for instance their philosophical attitudes, their diet and addictions) before using any remedies, nutricional supplements, herbs or any other technique. There is an important distinction between individual care and personalised care in modern patient care. Conventional medicine has a lot to do with individual care, rather than personalised care, it treats the illness, not the "human being" who has body, soul and spirit. Alternative medicine, today, rallies more and more people.

In addition, both medical concepts, conventional and alternative, have their place and they can harmoniously coexist on a mutually tolerant basis. It would seem that we cannot consider alternative medicine (as well as it practitioners) unimportant, but it is clearly true that scientific researches and studies followed by proven effectiveness and successful results is the best way to treat a patient.

In conclusion, the best thing to do is gather as much information as you can before you make a judgment. Many times people are sceptical or fearful because they do not know the facts.

Thanks, I am glad you found it interesting.

My father is really into alternative medicine. He does tons of research on it and truly believes it to be superior in many ways. Personally, I tend to think that there can be a nice blend of the two that will often bring about the best results. Nice article.

Thanks for your comments.

Very interesting insight. I prefer the Natural method, and has done very well all my life... being sick only a few times.

I am a firm believer in home remedies and alternative medicine. The Medical Establishment wants us to spend thousands of dollars on their treatments and such when a lot of times they can be effectively treated with much less expensive home remedies. For example: Garlic is a natural but cheap antibiotic. And pepper will effectively treat a soar throat. Cures are out there if you do some research. Interesting article.

WOW, quite informative....as a doctor i hve always been fascinated by this debate...

till the age of 16..i was always treated by Homeopathy and we never had problems of relapse etc but when i joined medical school and stayed away from family and had Rheumatic fever, i was started on penicillin ( the one and only TREATMENT Of choice)...

since then, i have been hooked to conventional treatment
i don't deny that Alternative medicine is great but i must say that "BE CAREFUL" about the "SOURCE"

My cousin escaped deat because of wrong AYURVEDIC therapy ( whic were steroids in diguise)....and she landed up with a lethal disease of brain ( SLE, Central nervous system, feel free to contact regd the details)....and she luckily survived ...when the chances of *...* were 90%....

SO just a caution -

BE CAREFUL....STAY IN TOUCH WITH A PHYSICIAN AND LISTEN to ur body

Thanks Natalia for posting your comment. Glad you liked it!

I'm a homeopathic girl. I really don't like seeing medicine go any further than it is. We've been alive for millions of years without modern technology. Even though I like reading about advancements in the field of medicine, I just don't really agree with it. We don't need to live to 147. It's unnatural. That's my point.

I think it is best to first find out about the unconventional ways before using them. I have tried Tai Chi and this new technique, i think it is called emotional tapping. They both work like miracles for me... Nice article.
