Why do I need to write? This question started to come to my mind a few weeks ago. Why would someone waste a long time on writing that entails reading and editing among other tasks. It is time consuming and for many – now-starting amateurs - it does not pay.
Well, the answer came in another question: "What should one do, instead?" and here is when I started to find substitutes... "Watch TV? Surf the Net? Listen to music?" or whatever other entertainment there can be. In fact, I concluded that most of these activities would make my brain passive toward the information it is receiving, so instead of wasting my time on what makes me passive, I decided to make my own world by actively writing whenever I have a space of time for myself. It is just like any other hobby one would practice.
It has been said that reading to the mind is what exercise is to the body; I would add to this that writing to the mind is what a sports competition is to the body. It is like when people participate in a sports competition, they exert their best efforts to show how hard they have been exercising. Writing is the same thing: in writing, people put all their effort to show and express in the best ways possible. If reading is the exercise, writing is the competition itself.
Write about anything and at any time. These inspiring wordssum up the whole thing. It is not necessary that one needs surrounding circumstances to start writing. Many people claim that they do not have the time or the atmosphere that would enable them to write. Well, sometimes you feel like you see things as in a movie or a novel. What you are doing here is that you are writing the situation that is in front of you with your mind’s pen and paper! Yeah, believe that, it is just like the mind’s eye… Anyways, so writing happens all the time, you just need a small sheet of paper ready in your pocket with a pen to throw notes whenever you feel urged to do so.
Write short so that everybody would be willing to read. If you start by writing short, but impressive pieces, people would enjoy reading and sharing thoughts with you. However, if you make your work long, many people would find it better to spend that long on an established novel, instead. A short piece of writing is like a sample that is like a practice to you and a sample to your readership to give their opinions.
